Nice stuff there.  Thanks for sharing.

I used to have both the MS2i and the HD650, at the same time. Now I only have the HD650. So there. =)

:) So there, is right. Wow, both. My next sonic pit stop will probably be a nice desktop amp/DAC setup, but someday I'll own some spare "mood" headphones. Have you owned any that came close to providing the balance the 650s provide?

Mediaogre, I wonder what your hosts thought of your choices?

I received some feedback, but my guess is they mostly tried to nod and remain objective. Ken bailed after a little bit, but he wanted to make sure I tried the 650 re-cable (which is effing brilliant). He also wanted me to try an Audio Technica model, but I ran out of time. It was also closed back and I just don't think I'm a closed back dude. :)

I would say that Curtis agreed with my assessments, especially with regard to the bright yet oddly undefined highs of the Grado RS1 and the intolerable sibilance of the T1s. Although, he did make the good point that many audio specialists make which is basically, "Some folks like one phone and not another, and what sounds good to you sounds good." He remained mostly neutral until I'd selected my "winner". And then he went on to echo most of the favorable comments I've heard about the 650s.  (We did both agree on the hideous, stuck-in-the-80s faux tech look though. :O )

I just jumped aboard the HD650 train today and placed my order for a set from Headroom. Can't wait! :)

What's the street price of the HD650 new/used these days?

I've been seeing their prices go up from ~280 to 330 used, and new they seem like the biggest ripoff ever.

I want to try one but the prices are prohibitive, and I'd rather get a DT880 for a lower price.

I got mine from Headroom for $350 shipped. When you check out, you just have to type in the coupon code: hd650

They're an authorized dealer for Sennheiser as well as a vendor on Head-Fi, so you can't really go wrong.

Thanks for the info, PANGES. (You stink though. You're going to receive yours WAY before me.) Now I need to barter with 32 Ohm Audio a bit. I'd love to give the local guys my business, but man the price difference. The 32 Ohm Audio guys do give a good discount on the HD650+re-cable combo. That is, depending on how one interprets value on fancy cables.

lol. Yeah. I've been searching for a good deal on HD650's for quite a while, and Headroom seemed to have the best deal (that I could find.) What price is 32 Ohm Audio doing?

Headroom's price looks like $499 right now. Is there a better "call for best price" deal?

32 Ohm Audio's price is $499+$150 for Ken's ALO 18AWG Cryo re-cable (fancy shiz, right?) which retails separately for $399. (Don't choke people, I'm doing it enough already.)

Yeah, it shows $499, but when you go towards the check out, there's a spot for "Coupon Code" and then you type in "hd650" and you get $150 off, which brings it to around $350 shipped. :)

It's hard to miss, but under the description of the HD650 on Headroom, it says "Please enter coupon code hd650 for best price!"

Ha a ripoff? Best not even pay attention to the HD800, but then again we're not supposed to pay attention to prices are we? Well, I consider the 650s quite a bargain since I prefer them to the 800. Works well for me!
