Sennheiser HD650 Impressions Thread - Page 822

After i spent sometimes, trying this and that..i finally found the best portable rig to come with my HD650. The best i have listened so far (from any portable i currently have) is using combination portable rig of Glacier + CLASdb + Ipod Classic. The sound quality is i believe above my previous desktop rig which was Solo SRGii + Dacport LX. The synergy is all there and is very satisfying result of sound quality. The other simplier combination is Ipod Classic + ALO International. This also can drive HD650 with ease, the sound is good but not as good as my fist combo i mentioned.

I compared using combination of CLASdb + International (using bal2bal connection) VS CLASdb + Glacier (using m2m connection), the sound quality was almost on par..but detailing and clarity i still prefer the later. The dynamic character of Glacier i think is a perfect match with HD650. What a lovely combination really.

My two favorite rigs to drive HD650:

Source : Ipod Clasic 160GB with WAV File

HD650 cable: Double Helix Cable 24AWG Copper

Just got my first pair of hd650s. I'm floored by these things in my oppinion they're marvels of human engineering when I get the money I'm getting 4 more pairs just to make sure I have enough hd650s for the rest of my life in case there discontinued. This is my first hifi system, it consists of a Bottlehead crack and a hrt music streamer. Love it

4 pairs?? confused_face(1).gif  You can buy a HD800 with that amount of money and still have spare.

True but I don't think I would buy a hd800 for 3 times the price I can't imagine they're that much better. Plus I heard they're rather bright which isn't my preference I'll be going with LCD 2s if I ever decide I need something better than this. I probably won't buy 4 pairs tho, probably just one

Just buy a couple extra pair of pads and you'll be set for 5+ years. For cosmetic protection I added a small strip of packing tape along the edge of the headband to protect against known chipping issues.

For a portable rig, I would just buy the HD580/HD600 cable with the 3.5mm termination, rather than adding that bulky adapter.

It's my plan if I keep the 650s. But I won't be using the thin 600 cables. I'll probably go for the Kimber or other German fast cables.

He made it that way on purpose to raise head way above the box and to use the neck as cable loop.
