Sennheiser HD650 Impressions Thread - Page 716

HD650 is on my short list of open back phones to try. Can these be driven properly with an E17 amp?

Oops. I forgot to set the notification to "immediately" otherwise I'll never see the response... Is there a way to make "immediately" the forum default? I keep forgetting to check it and the "Daily Digest" is all but useless to me. By the time I get the notice, the thread has moved on for four more pages.... biggrin.gif

Several orders of magnitude would equate to between three and five orders of magnitude.  The exact phrasing of the quote indicates (if taken literally) that Jason feels the detail retrieval is 1,000-100,000 times better in the Asgard 2 than the original Asgard.  Within the full spectrum of audio reproduction, some would argue that there aren't "several orders of magnitude" between the detail retrieval of an iPod compared to a Clearaudio Statement (much less one iteration of one product to the next).

Exactly my point. Thank you guys wink.gif

Go to your profile and click on 'Edit Account Details'. There you can set the default subscription frequency.

I am selling my Hd 650's, even though I find them extremely detailed and smooth I wanted a more forward treble and deeper bass. I also need some portables for school so I will probably go for a cheaper solution, since I am not willing to shell out $450 for a lyr.

In all honesty, no. I would highly recommend adding the E09k, keeping the E17 as a DAC. See my sig wink.gif

I think I'm going to look for some fun engaging headphones, I am no longer looking for neutral ones.

If  you want excitement and energy, then look at the he400.

I would also look into DT990s. They have the deep bass and detailed treble you're looking for. I wouldn't overlook them just because they're a bit cheaper. I personally think my DT880/600s are worth $400 despite getting them for $230.

I did demo the he 400's and even though I liked the bass I found them extremely analytical and the weight and comfort were huge drawbacks. That being said I did like them and it is possible I might get them again since I remember the instrumentation and sound stage being amazing out of my e17 dac.

The 600 OHM DT990's are actually $265 in like new condition from amazon warehouse so I might look into them though probably the 32 ohm version.

If anyone is still wondering, i just washed my pads with some normal detergent then air dried them, and they're still fine. They are actually more comfortable now since they were becoming compressed and my ears were touching the foam on the driver. After washing them, i was able to reshape them and now they're as good as new!

Especially for the (shipped) price of ~US$75, I also recommend the JVC HA-S500.
