Sennheiser HD650 Impressions Thread - Page 71

Just got the HD 650 today in the mail used. These are like brand new. Running them from the DACMAGIC and the Purity KICAS (Non Caliente) all I can say is they are different than the HD 600 that I also own. I will change out the cable to lighten them up a bit but so far these are amazing. Listening to Diana Krall and the bass player is fantastic. I do not hear it that well with the HD 600. I will say the HD 600 has a more transparent sound with brighter highs but I think I will grow accustomed to the sound of the HD 650 quite nicely. I kept the 600's until the 650's got here so I could listen to both to decide which one I wanted to live with. Surprise, I guess I will sell the HD 600's as I do not think they will get much play time. Anyone wanting a good SS Amp with the HD 650 I would recommend the KICAS without reservation. Amazing sound and plenty of power to drive these phones. I am presently only at 12:00 and between 1 and 2 oclock they are pretty loud and solid. Just my opinion. Anyone recommend a good cable to go with these.

You'll want a silver recable. The Headphile BlackSilvers are a good choice. Silver Dragons are good too.

The Senns are indeed easy to listen to but at times I find the dark signature bothersome. Bring in the K701. lol.

[I just ordered some AD1000s so I better wear some shades or I'll go blind.]

Are there any soundcards that can power these phones? Or do they really require a dedicated amp.
Hmm well I'm going to say no to that. I know some people would beg to differ but to me there was a pretty big difference. CKKIII is awesome.

Ugh I wonder how they sound on even better equipment. Oh noes.

How about the hifiman EF2? thinking about picking up a HD650 with one of those, or just a set of AD-900's

Just ordered the Headphile Blacksilver so we will see if I can hear a difference. Man this hobby is fun all it takes is money, LOL.

I agree that, with the stock opamps, the D10 is pretty good, but not that great, with the HD650. If one is up for a little opamp rolling, with the latest kit of opamps that Hiflight is making available for the D10, it brings out from the HD650 a whole lot more of its potential. For a DAP, and an amp, which drives the HD650 really gorgeously, I can strongly recommend, by experience, the AMP3. The Class A amp built into this unit drives the HD650 in a manner which compares quite favorably with any of my wall-powered, and WAY costlier, stationary rigs. For a DAC/amp, the D10, with the latest Hiflight TopKit of opamps, does a fine job with the HD650, to my ears.

I have not tried Hiflight kit but after using stock D10 with D5000 and hearing how amazing it sounds, I understood how poor D10 is with HD650, today I switched back to 650 and it was embarrassing, I need one of those little dot amps

I will but first I need SS little dot with little dot dac, I only use headphones in the office and hd650 unusable since it is very loud for people around me, even though I love open phones, so airy and detailed I have to stick with D5000

So when amping HD650s, what differences do you guys hear?

I have a single amp (Travagan’s Red) and the only source I have that can do the right output to it is a PS3 or 360. So I tested it with the PS3 with Pink Floyd Comfortably Numb on the PS3 and my normal Stereo CD player (non-amped just to headphones) and I honestly couldn't tell a big difference.
