Sennheiser HD650 Appreciation Thread!! - Page 738

I appreciate the HD 650's for reintroducing me to music.  In that respect it delivered more than I could have asked for.  Plus they sound good.

Just went through a 24/96 version of Norah Jones album Come Away With Me on the HD 650s last night... STUNNING.

BTW, MattTCG, when you get your hands on the Asgard 2, please make a point of posting a copy of your review/impressions here in this thread too for how it matches with the HD650

I'm going to have $1500 at my disposal in a few weeks and i'm looking to upgrade in any way. I love my hd650's, it's the signature sound that gets me, I however am unsure as I've never tested out any equipment other then my own that i've purchased over time. my journey started with the compass then I moved to portable getting the headstage arrow and went in the middle with the o2 amp (I guess LOL) I enjoyed my q701's and hd650's out of them but the itch of knowing that the hd650's can be improved upon leaves me at an awe. At the same time I've never tried anything higher end, any recommendations would be great and just to make clear what I've been eyeing already

my current setup

dragonfly > o2 amp > hd650

Headphones

he-500

lcd-2

hd800(this is a wild card pick I can fit it in my budget thanks to a hook up)

AMPS

woo audio wa6

crack+speedball
lyr

csp2+

mjolnir

with my budget an IDEAL setup would be

dragonfly>crack+speedball>hd650/hd800's.

The LCD2 would be the clearest upgrade since it has relatively the same sound.  HE500 from what I've heard is probably the most neutral( I think this is going to be my ultimate upgrade can in a few months time), and the HE500 lacks a lot of the bassy atmosphere that the HD650 has.  You may or may not like that.  It might not be unfair to call it the ultra version of the AKG K701, although I haven't heard them so it's speculation

I personally preferred the HD800 to the LCD2 with both the Mjolnir and the Speedball Crack, fwiw

+1 on the lcd2 if you don't mind the weight. After that the lyr would be a wicked good upgrade. But hey, you should really be asking this in a separate thread. tongue.gif

Guys, I'm sorry, but I've had to remove some of the discussion in this thread. Group buys (and links to group buy sites) are not permitted on Head-Fi (see the rules) due to previous issues of predatory pricing, which is ultimately harmful to the community.

This is a great album I loved it on my hd 650's.

Currently listening to Miles Davis - "Kind of Blue" smily_headphones1.gif Is there a genre that the 650's don't do well? I've yet to find it.

But to be fair, what doesn't play Miles well?! Jk. One of my first vinyls I purchased.

Incidentally, I borrowed this from the library a few days ago. Great album on the HD650.
