I've heard that the mids are a bit withdrawn but they have a lot more sparkle than the HD650s?

^^ Why not not at a nice closed hp with sparkle as a complement those 650's?  Warm with sparkle dt770 for a closed hp. For a nice flat response in a closed hp the maddogs by Mr. Speakers are very good.

Hey thanks for the reply, the schiit modi / magni combo cost $330 here wish I could get them for $99 each, The O2/ODAC also cost about $340, while the Aune T1 with russian military 6H23N-EB tube is $250 kind of leaning towards the Aune T1.

I am looking to buy a pair good open back headphones from $300-$500. As of now, I am very interested in HD 650 but remain open to any suggestions.

The 650, he400 and maddogs get my best recommendation. 

650=very musical, good with all genres, needs a pretty good desktop amp to really show it's potential, comfort king

400=great ortho bass for an open hp, easy to amp, heavy, slight treble spike  but a darker sound overall

maddogs=flat/neutral signature but the bass really comes out well when the material calls for it, almost as heavy as the he400 but more comfortable and ruggedly built, smooth natural mids, you might call it the poor man's lcd2

I'm listening to them right now. My other cable is a DIY done by a head-fi'er made of silver coated copper wire with Neutrik 1/4" plug and cover made with Techflex sleeve. It is a better cable that I old one, very open and spacious. My only complaint is the silver cord is too skinny, making it too easy to get tangled. Definite worth  the cost.

Try finding them used. Plenty of hd650's sold on here by reliable sellers, selling them in pristine condition. Just need to find a good deal for you.

Gently used in mint condition will likely be your best bet. If you want new then take a look at razordogdeals.com

A good portable will do. Keep in mind that the 650 is one of the best scaling hp's out there. The more you give it, the more you'll give back.

I think they are fantastic complements to each other. The HD650 has richer vocals and a lush, comforting sound, whereas the DT880 is much more engaging, exciting and in my opinion, fun to listen to. The mids on the DT880/600 are actually very good in my opinion, almost on par with HD600s which I think are pretty much on par with HD650s. I could sing the praises of my DT880 all day. I've found no fault with it. The 250ohm's vocals weren't as good and I feared the 600ohm would suffer the same fate. I couldn't have been more wrong. They are just fantastic. But be warned, you might forget your HD650s exist for a while....

It's all so subjective. I find the DT880 to be one of the most boring headphones out there. "Fun to listen to" isn't a comment I'd use to describe them.

After having some real time with my HD650s in the past 2 days, I can say I'm really appreciating their sound again. They sound great with the Amperex tubes. Some details are a bit quieter, but I can still hear everything I used to be able to. It's just not as pronounced. Pretty much the same with my DT880s. I love the punchy bass of the HD650s, and the vocals are just great. They do EDM way better than anyone gives them credit for. They're not the best in class, but they do a great job. The sound isn't as airy and doesn't have as textured bass as some people would prefer, but it's awesome. I'd prefer my DT880s for a lot of songs, but I think I've finally had enough time with them for a while. I'm ready to appreciate the lush HD650s again. I love being able to hear music on multiple kinds of headphones whenever I want, based upon my mental state. It rocks.
