I read you also started the HE-400 thread... Could I ask how you feel about the HD650 in relation to it? I'm sure you've posted about that at some point, but I figure it probably won't hurt to ask you anyway. Pretty interested in your opinion.

I wrote a review a while back on that very thing. Just click the link in my sig...

Did you ever try the he-400 with the lyr?

^^ Of course. There is some headroom with the he400 and it's scales pretty well with the lyr. Not like the 650 does though. Oh, and I was just joking with the above pic. That's really not me. This is me...

Hey you look pretty hot ^^

How do those beats scale with the Lyr by the way?

Thanks. redface.gif Lot's of people say that I look like Justin Beiber. Those are not beats. They are heavily modified 650's with custom paint. wink.gif

The Modi/Magni design budget is far less constrained by size than the Dragonfly's, leaving more room for performance at the price. And the stack is cheaper. But you need to plug it into a wall, and moving the stack around the house is undesirably fiddly. Although most serious listening will be convenient to a wall outlet, I don't really have a fixed listening position at home. At the same time, having a dedicated amp on hand should offer a worthwhile boost to the Dragonfly when the primary listening station is available.

Anyway, thought I'd bounce these thoughts off the 650 club to solicit thoughts and maybe shorten the research cycle for others.

The DF is really a portable solution. It can compete with the M/M combo, but you can take it with you and use it discreetly without a separate power source too. It does a very nice job for its price as a DAC/Amp, but I actually prefer it as the DAC with another amp if I can have the use of one....

Basically, the DF vs. the M/M stack are two separate solutions.

Guys... I think a month is enough time to get past a honeymoon phase with a pair of headphones. I've been listening to my DT880s nonstop. Their sound is just perfect to me. I am constantly amazed. I think they've replaced the special place the HD650s have in my heart. HD650 is like the firstborn who gets less attention after the new baby comes. I hope it doesn't resent me for it... redface.gif

Trust me, you'll place them equally once you get to know the pros and cons of the DT880's sound.

At this point, each headphone has something unique to offer, it'll bring out a different aspect of the sound. Its a combination of our hearing, and the sound of the headphone.

I had the 250ohm, I couldn't find anything I didn't like about those except a little light on the bass and recessed vocals. The 600ohm fixes both of those amazingly, I think. It's not hot on the treble at all, compared to the HE-400 which made my ears ring for a week straight. I like the HD650 for when I'm in the mood for slower songs and richer vocals, but the DT880s reproduce electronic music the way it was meant to be heard, in my humble opinion. It is simply the perfect headphone for it, again, in my opinion. The majority of my music is electronic. It just stimulates my brain in a way little other music can. So to you I say, I haven't found many cons with the sound. I love it.
