Because for me, personally, I know I've had some "oh wow, this HD-650 DOES have a veil" moments... but this was right after I switched to the HD-650 from another headphone.

But when I pick up the HD-650 without having listened to any headphones right before, the "veil" seems gone.

It seems it's more an issue where people get used to one pair of headphones, and then when they switch over the HD-650, it seems as if, relatively, there is a veil. This seems like a more likely explanation for the "veil", than Sennheiser changing their headphones mid-production. Because, AFAIK, the criticisms of Sennheiser's veil has been around since the HD-580, and the HD-600. So whatever it is that causes people to believe there is such a veil is by actual design (ie. is done on purpose), and not an issue with manufacturing.

That's because the ones with the white screens has no veil..

   Try out the older versions. There is definitely a veil.

I Don't find the HD650 to be all that much of a Jack of All Trades deal.

My #1 headphone for EDM though.. and since i'm going through an EDM phase at the moment, i am to conclude, my favourite headphone as of present ;)

Nope. You actually didn't specify about owning the silver or black screened HD650's,

you pretty much just generalized your statement with owning other headphones and then

coming back to it.

If you haven't heard both, then you shouldn't speak to whether or not there really is a veil.

If you have, then by all means, share your thoughts.

But really all this is meaningless, Sennheiser fixed the issue and has made many, many

people happy 650 owners.

Did you, or did you not do a side-by-side A/B comparison?

It's still open for discussion. 

Which makes me wonder do you have the dark screened version as well?

And yes, I have "A'B'ed" them even though that's a completely flawed comparison.

The difference was quite stark to my ears. Completely recessed and flat. It sounded weak and not sweet like the

650 I know.

I just want to point out, my point was most who say their 650's aren't veiled are correct, they're not.

But that's because the issue has been fixed. Meaning, past tense. That's all.

Now if you have heard a dark screened version and don't feel they're veiled, I'd be surprised, but who actually knows

how many units were affected.

Similarly to the LCD-3 first couple of batches needing some RMA for a veil.

"If" there ever was a veil, it was on the earlier versions with the black screens.  I do know I hear no "veil"  with the ones I have.

I use to own the black screens - I didn't notice a veil with them either - like I did with the very early LCD-3.

No, I've never tried the black screened HD-650.

Have you tried the HD-580, and the HD-600? Back when the HD-580 was around people complained about the veil, too. I used to own a pair over ten years ago, and even then I didn't think they had a veil.

Have you ever heard ant headphone with a veil?  Would you know it when you hear it?

They are dark (laid back) so yea, I can see them seeming that way if switching from a more "engaging" or detailed can.

But again I am focusing on the clearly changed (at least by screen color) HD650's. Which seem more alive (white screens).

I wouldn't bother unless you're curious about potentially hearing a really crappy headphone. (at that time).

I've heard the HD600, however I can't speak to it's veiled or unveiled iteration. I never cared much for it to begin with

and so I can not say whether or not it was affected.

And again, no clue as to how many units were even affected. However there was a driver change (for a good reason) one would surmise.

I never feel HD650 has the veil. Sometimes, I even feel my HD650 is a little bright.
