Home theather speakers <$500 - Page 2

I heard the ventriloquist only briefly in their SoCal headquarters. Didn't sound bad, but it's a lot of money for what you get. These are small speakers, too and I wouldn't want to use them in your 500ft^2 room.

The onkyo speakers are definitely small. The Insignias barely get out of the small category.

Btw, the JVC receiver I got that cost $80 on clearance had real 5 way binding posts, so there are deals available if you look and wait.

He has $500 to spend, he doesn't need to be looking at "large" speakers.

And why would he want "large" speakers, when he will be setting his bass management to "small" and the crossover at 80-100 hz?

If it were me, I would start with a solid pair of bookshelf speakers, and build up from there. My first purchase after graduating last summer was a pair of Paradigm Mini Monitors for $360, I used my existing Yammie receiver, and then purchased another Mini Monitor (used) for center channel use for $150. Then I purchased a pair of Paradigm titans for $180 (used) to use as my rears. My last purchase was an SVS PB10-isd.

My point is that maybe you should start with a good pair of bookshelf speakers like the Mini Monitor, or Axiom Audio M3i, and build your system from there as you get more funds.

Can you post links one the "insignia" speakers? And do I need a powered subwoofer? It seems that this amp has 100wats for it already.

is that site trustable? that seems like a really good sale, maybie I should get speakers from there too?

and what is on the back of the center chanel of those? why is there so many ports?

I have a lot more money than 500, I just dont want to spend it all on speakers, so I will not upgrade with time, but it would be a nice option.

I am really a newb at this, so please understand

rock/: all points I had already addressed if you had read my posts and understood what I meant between the lines.

I'm sorry ooheadsoo, I'm trying to get some work done and post on this fine forum at the same time :-) I've been staring at a computer screen so much lately, I can barely read the lines, forget reading between them.

Accessories4less is a very trustworthy site. They are an authorized retailer, so you get a refurb warranty from the manufacturer on whatever you buy.

Why don't you want to spend more money on speakers? They can be just enjoyable as cans if not more. But maybe I'm biased because I come from an HT background. :-)

I suspect that by cans you mean headphones? Anyway, the only good heodphones I have are the shure e500, which are really not cans. I am listening to them now btw, they sound amazing.

And I am actually 16 years old, and 500 is the most I got out of my mom.....
I probably would spend more if I was buying it.

Edit:
and nobody answered to this yet

The micro satellites do not contain crossovers, so the audio signal must be routed to the center channel so that the proper frequency range is sent to the micro satellites. Read the description of the speakers, and it explains.

I dont understand you, and I cant find anything about it in the description. Can you please try to explain again?

So I need to buy two pairs of those speakers you just linked, that $79 onkyo amp you linked before, and what sub and center channel?

Edit: are those any good? they have a crossover, and I could fit them in $500.
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1099395865160

why are the center chanel speakers so expensive? Would this one be good?

For the sub, is this going to work? Now I know I cant keep it under $500, I will talk to my mom.LOL

Ok, I just glanced over the htib's and I really liked this one, is it any good? Could it compare to the setup above?

Since you seem to be infatuated with HTiBs, go get one. Make yourself happy and forget about us. There was one HTiB recommended in this thread just for you and it was the Hsu ventriloquist. Have a good time.

I was just asking how big the difference was, anyway, I talked to my mom, and now my budget is $800.
How is the stuff I linked in my previous post?

for that budget, this is what i'd get in a heartbeat:

Onix X-LS 5.1 System Special

the L, R and surround speakers are these.

and the center is this one.

for the money, it will be great for both movies and music. plus you can mod them for even better sound (for little money) if you're ever so inclined.

you list the Bose Lifestyle 48 system in your sig. if that belongs to your parents, why don't you sell it for them and pick up two of the systems i mentioned above, so all of you can enjoy quality sound?

The bose lifestyle is mine, but its in europe(Czech Republic), I am in go to school in Florida now(for 4years) thats another reason why I dont want to spend too much money.
I really dont want to sell the bose, its already installed in my room, and I got it as a gift.

Anyway, that setup you mentioned, does it come with an amp?

Edit: forgot to say, the rear speakers are definatelly going to be mounted to the wall, and I am not sure about the front ones yet.

No it doesn't. So now that your budget is increased and given you like HTiBs, why don't you take a look at the Hsu Ventriloquist system. If you get the cheapest combo, you can afford an amp.
