quick optical question

i'm connecting my ps2 to a klh receiver using an optical cable. using the "tape out" i connect the receiver to a pa2v2 using a mini to rca cable. for some reason, i'm not getting any sound at all. i've switched the option on my receiver to optical, but still nothing. any suggestions? thanks.

can you get sound out of the receiver's speakers? Some receiver like my old sherwood required you to turn on the tapeouts. Or select the tape out source.

Check to see if the reciever is locking onto the signal before examining other options

perhaps i need to tell my ps2 to use the optical outputs? i don't have a tv hooked up to it right now, so that's gonna be kinda difficult. could somebody confirm if i need to do this?

Do you get sound out of the speakers attached to your receiver when playing from your Playstation?

It could be the tape-out is just an analog loop-through and is not connected to the DAC inside of your receiver.

Best regards,

i don't have speakers hooked up to the receiver so i can't really test that right now. before i got the optical cable, i was using the ps2's stock cord to attach to the tapein. then i used the rca to mini from the tapeout on the receiver straight to the amp, then the headphones. another thing i noticed that when i go to the "cd" option on my receiver i can select analog/opti1/opti2/coax, but when i go to "tape", i'm unable to choose anything other than analog. hope this helps. thanks for all the suggestions already. hopefully i can get this figured out real soon..

I go from my optical out from my NAD to my receiver optical in and if I go from my optical tape out to a optical in on a dac I would get sound but if I use the analog tape out I would only get sound from my analog inputs on my receiver. I hopes this helps. To make this a little clearer only analog stuff plugg in to the analog in would get sound from the analog tape out. Meaning rca inputs. To get the optical sound I would have to use the optical tape out and I don't know of any amps that have optical in except for amps with a dac in front of them
