I recently aquired the LDM+ and I'm troubleshooting the bass problem with the seller and people on this forum. However, I'm thinking of amping my desktop Altec Lansing 5.1 system. Is there a amp out there that specifically amps desktop speakers? Can I use headphone amps to amp my speakers?

All I have to say is that their awesome pair of headphones. Great sound stage, vocals are a bit too strong, you can feel the bass other than hearing it, and great for movies. Comfort is 4.5...

Amp for my desktop 5.1 system?

Ok, I'll bite...Chances are that if it's a set of speakers specifically designed for your computer then it already has an amp. Most likely it is intergrated into the subwoofer. If you plug the speakers into a power outlet then they are most definitely self-amped and do not need another amplifier.
Also, headphone amplifiers work in the analog 2-channel (stereo) realm. If you want 6-channel (5.1) operation from your speakers you either need to feed them a digital signal or have 6 analog outputs. If you did have 6 analog outputs then you would need 3 stereo amplifiers to power all of the speakers.
Basically, you don't want a headphone amp to power your desktop computer speakers.
