Sennheiser 595s to sennheiser 650s? (I own a PA2V2 amp and Sound blaster X-Fi xtrememusic). I pretty much listen to every type of music (a lot of rock/trance though). I also do quite a bit of gaming.

Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks

The PA2V2 is not powerful enough to get the most out of the 650's. Maybe you could go with some 580's, but I don't know how much of a difference there would be from your 595's.

Would buying a nicer amp be more worth it then? If so, what amp? (Max $200).

I've been listening to my 650 with my "home" rig for a couple hours and just compared how the 650 sounds straight out of my Zen Vision:M vs. amped with the PA2v2 thru the line out. At approx. 55% of full volume the amp begins to sound distorted. The PA2v2 really doesn't offer much more volume than the amp in the ZV:M(at full volume)...and adds a muddy quality which doesn't sound good.(edit)- I should add that IME the PA2v2 works much better with low(er) impedance cans.

Even at the low volume from the ZV:M some of the 650 goodness still shows and sounds a good bit better than one of my other cans that is more easily driven(K240S). If you have any plans to eventually buy that better amp, then IMO it'd be a good move to buy the 650.

...not sure about any amps for $200. Very soon I'll be testing my 650 with a Supermini IV ($200). My Micro works well with the 650 IME but maybe not the best choice at that price??

well I'll be only upgrading one, so probably amp it sounds like.

What amp works well with the hd 595? Will it be worth it to upgrade to a ~$200 amp from the pa2v2 with the 595s?

I have all 3.. The PA2V2 drives the 650's 'ok'.. For 200.00 its hard to beat the orignal master for 195.. If you want a tube experience the Shiang can be had for 190.00 at pacificvalve.us Great quality & great sound for the money.. The lil dot 2 is also a great budget tube amp thats runs 160.00..

Well I know what they ARE but why do the help the amp? Whats the purpose of them (what do they do to the amp to make them better).

A SS (solid state) amp doesn't use tubes and has a different sound quality in general from tube amps.

There are some good threads here if you care to spend a couple hours reading the details.

I like having a taste of both. I prefer my HD 650 with my Woo Audio 3.
