I dont have any 6sl7 tubes lol

I never did roll a lot of tubes with the ZDSE (just 4 in fact), but the best I had was a current production Sophia Electric which trounced my others (stock, nos tung sol, nos Brimar) in nearly every category. Has awesome bass too, but it did cover up the lower mids a bit. Great transparency, soundstage, details, and dynamics over the others though. OTH, I'm sure there's a lot better out there as well. I got mine for $95 shipped off Ebay (Washington audio). The ZDSE is very well designed, and changes in tubes can be quite dramatic. I'd peruse the Zana tube roller's thread for starters...

Curious which NOS Tung Sol tube you tried, BournePerfect.  While I don't have a ZDSE, I have a similar EC amp that uses a 6SL7 type output.  I just picked up a used Tung Sol 6SU7WGT for cheap on ebay to try out, and have a KEN RAD VT-229 coming to roll as well.

Mine was a short, round plate, black glass, NOS. Can't remember the Year. Very sweet mids, but overall lacked in clarity and dynamics compared to the others. Great for vocals-not much else. I was never satisfied with rock/pop until I got the Sylvania.

I found Tung Sol Tung-Sol 6SU7GTY  a bit boring sounding with my EC2A3, not really my favorite.

Thanks, I'll look into the Sylvania's as well.

What is the typical lead time once in the queue for the ZDSE?

You'd have to ask Craig, I'd imagine. Mine took 5-6 weeks after I paid my first deposit iirc.

Depends on when the next batch is being down. Mine was three months.

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the site say one is always ready to ship?

It's said that for years lol. Craig's site seems like his last priority at times. Best to email him...always.

When I ordered the amp, I estimated must wait for  6 months.

But he replied me the amp would finish in three weeks.

He is very right on schedule.

After three weeks, I mailed to him asked about the amp, he said the amp was finished just run for final test.

I didn't mail to him ask the amp's process rate in that three weeks. You can count on him.

Thank-you Daniel, Pudu and LED04 for the lead time insights. That is helpful.

Just built a Bottlehead Crack to gain some experience with the internal construction and sound of a low complexity 12AU7 / 6AS7g OTL. The sound is very good, with no noise, though limited to high impedance headphones for best results. Will be interesting to compare and contrast with the ZDSE.

ZDSE is now in burnin and will soon be on its way. Good things come to those with patience. Anyone care to share their curent favorite 6SL7 stories?

I've only had the Sylvania myself but not found any Mullard ECC35's or Sophia Electric 6SL7's locally. Don't wanna buy off eBay yet.
