Headphone inline stepped attenuator?

I have been looking for an attenuator. I have CX300s which are 16ohm and they hiss like crazy with my XCANv2 and IPOD shuffle. I also need the volume VERY low. On my PC I need the lowest click and I am terrified of a piece of software increasing the volume and killing my ears. I have found the cheap solution: a cheap £3 inline volume control. But I hate these cheap units with dodgy brush connections so.....

....can I get a an inline stepped attenuator?

I really would like to avoid building one!

edit: It would not need to be huge. The step could be quite big (maybe a total of three would do) Oh no, I am seeing that there is no chance that this will exist.

You could have an inline stepped attenuator, but it would be huge and also pretty heavy. Definitely not something you want to have pulling down on your headphones while you listen to your slow jams. You're better off with a good old potentiometer using wipers.

P.S. A stepped attenuator with 3 decks will be good enough, in case you really want to do this. Ofcourse though, you'd get one of them gold plated Elma's and put it on a chain and wear it around your neck... *BLING*

You could try down pad the signal with a small resistor network.

Thanks for the replies guys. I wasn't thinking of portability. I dont carry my laptop or XCans in a portable rig! I was thinking of a small box with a fly lead and a headphone socket on the front with a nice switch on top. I guess I could just make up a few resistance leads and use as appropriate. I have found the cable and the terminations. Now, what resistors do I need? I am thinking of trying 75 and 150 ohms. But what wattage do I require and are there different qualities and types. The guy at Maplins was as clueless as me.
