First, there was the Best Buy/Insignia speaker. Then, it was the Circuit City/Sony speaker. Now comes the J&R/Acoustic Research (AR) speaker blowout....

AR VP26 bookshelf speaker for $70.00/pair shipped

I know most will say AR is no longer the company it once was, especially after Audiovox took over when Recoton went belly up. However, this current series was designed before Audiovox gained control of the company. That may be hope.

Here's the product information page on Audiovox for these AR speakers, including owner's manual.

Looks quite ok to me - should be worth a try.

Anyone try these?

AR isn't the company it used to be. I think I'll pass until I hear form others how these are.

I just went for this deal, I sitll haven't gotten them home yet. I am gonna hoke them up to my tube amp, a Dared MP-5. I will respond with my results.

SQ wise they are a step up from my Polk R10 but they are simbilant. I'm hoping they will be better with time. They get pretty loud with the Dared 15x2 watt amp so I guess they are efficent.

Ok been a couple more hours, they sound really good. Bass is starting really shine. Decided to take a break from the hard stuff and hit the classicals. I started playing Rhapsody in Blue, wow. Lots of detail. The treble bias actually helps the music. Now doing some Mozart, love it.
