discovered a bargain at bb, ar cables!

i know this is old news, but i had totally overlooked these due to their price suggesting they could not possibly be any good.

so i had a gift card at bb. i'd normally never shop there. i didn't know what to get.

i was aware of the acoustic research cables. i knew they had good specs. i knew they were $20. i figured they sucked. i was wrong!

i have been intrested in trying different s/pdif coaxial cables.

3 feet 20 bucks. easily better than any cable that starts with an "M" and will scare you(even the one that is $100 for one meter). maybe that is not such a big surprise actually.

not better than a stealth indra, lol.

heck, it isn't even broken in yet. still ain't gonna be better than a stealth indra, but did i mention it is $20? you could do worse(as i just mentioned above) for $100.

i still have $30 left on my gift card.....

edit: forgot to mention it is pro series II. the cheaper one is all plastic and looks like crud. the more expensive one they do not carry and i hate ferrite anyhow.

edit 2: the stealth i was joking about is actually a "varidig sextet". the indra is an analog cable but the ar is still not better, haha.

I have their 12 awg Pro II speaker cable and it really is a great bargain for the money. They sound great and look decent too, for the price you can't beat it. Sure there're other speaker cables out that sound better but I currently don't have the cash to be dropping $3-400 on just the cables alone.

i didn't mean exactly for the money though. if you do not choose wisely you can do worse at $100 as i pointed out. maybe you cannot even do better for $100. i don't know that either. all i have to compare it to is $2 cables and ones that are hundreds. in all honesty a coaxial cable should not have it's own sound, it is transmitting data. what is important is the shield. in that respect it easily out specs some more expensive cables. i thought by the picture on the box that what they called double copper braids where actually foil. not the case. it is a bad picture on the box. they are indeed double 95% copper braids with 100% mylar and gas injection dielectric and solid 99.97 copper 18awg center. like i said, you could do worse at 5 times the price.

unless you want silver(which i would not for a coax cable) i don't see a need to go above this. for analog ic's yeah there is going to be better than ar.

well, they had to cut a corner somewhere. the solder job is pretty bad(they used flux)
still, they sound neutral which is a good thing for a coax.

Yeah,I have to agree their great cables at any price. One of the first things I noticed while useing my akg k501s is an improvement in bass. They seemed to go just a little deeper. Then I put on my 325is and their appeared to be a little more soundstage than with the cheaper cables I had before. For along time I was one of those people who thought cables really did'nt make all that much difference in sound. Now I find myself having to rethink that point of view.
