Thinking of redoing my A900 cable, Add mini XLR

Alright guys, this will be my first headphone mod on my first pair of headphones. I want to totally redo my cable on my A900's. I would like to put a mini XLR jack on them like what has been done in THIS mod. But, on the other end of the cable I want a mini jack, so, I can still use it with my mp3 player. So, what kind of wire should I use(gage, etc...). I want to have the same kind of cover that is already on my cable, is there anyway I can get some of the same stuff? And are the 35HDNAUS mini connectors any good?

Help me out plz guys!

If I didn't explain what I wanted to do very well, here is a pic.

I would recommend splitting the cable directly to the right and left driver. Single entry point usually leaves the opposite driver unbalanced with the other. You've improved the wire to the first driver but your leaving the other one hanging.
If this is not an option then there are lots of wire options out there. Try to use at least 24awg wire, 22 is better. The Switchraft and Neutrik gold plated connectors are the best in my opinion stay away from nickel plated connectors. Switchraft is one of 2 that make the tiny XLR. The other brand eludes me right now. What find of cover is on the current cable? You might be able to reuse once you remove the stock cable.
Hope this helps..

Here is a pick of the stock cable, I hope you can see it, my camera sux, or I would've gotten a better Picture...

So, what you are saying, I should make a mini XLR input on both things(that hold the drivers) to have it balanced?

Too small of a pic, cant tell. If it is a rope type cover like the more expensive AT's, once you remove the cable you can also slide this off and reuse.

Darn, well, it is kinda a braided cover. idk how to describe it... have you guys seen a guide on how to take apart the A900's or any AT cans for that matter? I don't wanna screw anything up.

Pull off the Pads. A lip holds them on. Unscrew 4 screws and walla you are inside.

Thnx for that, I just never have taken the pads off, so, I didn't know.

So, it would be fine if I got the nickel body right? I think it just looks better than the black.

Looks like the price is creeping up as I go research about this stuff. I guess I won't go mini XRL...

Edit: Also, is there any special kind of cable I should get, or should I just get a few rolls of copper 22awg wire?

Nickel body is fine. Just stay away from nickel contacts. Wire depends on budget.

Well, I have a budget of about $50 to spend on the cables them selves, the plugs are not in that amount.
