With CD73 on top

I thought that was a Beta player until I saw the lit CD sign on the right.

RobN>That is a great find considering they are fairly rare and can get a bit costly.

Doesn't the the transport use the same transport as the cd7. A Phillips mechanism IIRC.

Did you get a chance to compare it against the cd7?

Looking forward to your post about the sound of it.

They both have Philips transports but the CD7 is a different one to the CD12.

I haven't listened to the CD7

You got some nice kit there. Feeling sorry for the Yamaha CT7000 tuner at the bottom of the stack with all that heavy Marantz stuff sitting on top!

Congratulations ....the cd12/da12 is an excellent cd player .
These old Marantz players put most of the modern stuff to shame .

I bought a second hand cd12/da12 a few years ago with the intention of it replacing my Marantz cd94/cda94....after many months of switching between them using the same digital cable and interconnect , i was unable to pick them apart....both are superb .
I ultimately decided to keep the cd94/cda94 as it matches the other gear better than the gold finish of the 12.

Is it worth getting the Ken Kessler mod done on the CD12?

The person who does it is in the UK.I think he's done about 20 units so far

Intersting question. I never heard (of) the Ken Kessler mod. Do you have some more info?
Thanks.

There was a piece about it in last months Hi-Fi News magazine I think. I havn't read it yet so I don't know the details.

Unless the machine is in need of servicing I would be inclined to leave it as is since it's one of the best CD players ever made anyway.

I can see the argument for the new KI upgrades to the CD63KIS as this was a middle range machine anyway which was built down to a price at the time and was capable of improvement but with the CD12 / CD94 I think it's unecessary.

It only gives contact details. The person who runs the company used to work for Marantz in 1970's and 80's.

I looked it up and found this:
"KK had his DAC extensively modified by Ken Ishiwata and this is why he so raves about it; the mods cost around £3,000"
