Roll Call for Team AKG - Page 51

So... it turned out there are 2 major versions of the HD650.

The older ones had a black acoustic-silk screen, while the newer HD6XX share a metal sound-screen.

The older ones sound dark and some call the veiled, while the new ones sound more forward and ballanced.

I got a brand new pair but I expected them to sound dark as night. Naturally I was surprised, but now it all makes sense.

I guess I don't wanna have another expensive HD600... Don't get me wrong, they are great cans but I wanted something really warm for a change.

The Denons (AH-D2000 mainly) look decent warm and fun... strangely their price recently exploded from 220€ to 439€...

I have heard both versions and there is no difference in sound. I fidn the old and new HD650's to sound the same. Same goes for the HD600's.

As for AKG, I have been enjoying my K400 and K501 quite a bit!

Post an add in the forums, I'm sure you can get them for cheap. I got my K400 for $75 and the K501 was about $150 I think.

Had the k271mk2...great time with it, light n bigsounding...inexpensive.

the k450 was disastrous...until i EQed down the bass, that kept me in the phaith...

K702 met my expectation but the wow is with the white Q701...so smart looking :P

THiS has to be THE BARGAIN CAN in midpriced territory.

I agree +10,000%. The K400 and K501 are some of the best headphones I have ever heard. I think they are better than the K701/K702/Q701 by a mile, and are cheaper!

Seems like I should join "Team AKG", too.

So far, I have a K240 Monitor, a K271 Studio and a K412P for travelling. A K280 Parabolic is here, too, but I'm not sure if I'll really keep it. My K55, first "real" headphones I ever owned, are up for sale.

I have a couple of beaten up AKGs that I'll fix up in the next weeks in order to decide which one(s) to keep. I'm a DIY enthusiast, so this connects the chance to test quite a lot of phones with the opportunity to fix something up, which I like.

The K240M is a very nice headphone, even the K271 is quite good.

I'm really happy with the K240M - I'm glad that I went hunting for one. I'm almost done with refurbishment: New foam disks and new elastics are in there, I only have to order new ear pads.

The K271 is not my favorite for listening, however, I love it as my personal monitoring headphone for long days in the studio. It fits my head like a second skin, isolation is good enough and the sound doesn't fatigue me. I retrofitted it with the velour pads after the last project, so I'm curious how it will fare on the next CD recording.

i remember using hifiman velour pads for my k240m before and they became sibilant. but i guess thats because of the size of the pads (the area at the center is too big)
