Do want. I enjoyed the Q701s a lot (although I'd probably have to bass mod them).

They sound decent with the leather (J money pads) , but I have since went with Shure Alcantara pads, they sound incredible.

I do like the AKG house sound and I go round and round but come home to loving the sound. Two pairs of AKG k701s and a pair of AKG K512 MK 2s.

I see a lot of people modding their headphones with JMoney pads. It's just a shame they don't seem to be available anymore except through classifieds.

Love AKGs. Have the K612, K240 mk ii, K171 mk ii, K142 HD, K430. Thinking of adding the K452 and K702 next.

I HAD the AKG K712s (very comfortable, very accurate, but for me, booooooring, like the kid in class who was always right) , then traded them and some other headphones for the AKG K3003i IEM (biggest upgrade, in terms of increasing the "delight" factor, that I have ever made... my end-game, forever IEMs), then found I missed the AKG K712s so bought some new AKG Q701s in lime green (exciting, way more so than the always-correct K712s, sort of like that girl in class about whom you fantasized so much you never got the answer right when the teacher called on you!)

I thought the k712's were more bassy than the Q701's?... Unless you bass modded them?

Yes indeed, the K712s have a 3 dB boost to the bass vs. the Q701s, with the remaining higher-end frequency responses matching

But they were still not bassy enough to do justice to even reasonable amounts of bass, much less the bass-head levels I enjoy with certain types of music.  So that extra 3 dB was not a big factor, as I would go to other more bassy headphones (e.g., HiFiMAN HE-500, Yamaha 500 PRO, or Beats Pro) for a song where I wanted to hear the bass.

IMO the 3dB boost suggested by AKG for the K712 are in comparison to their previous AKG K7xx model but 3dB boost from neutral

Couldn't put down my 'new' K140 (closed back version) all week.

This has never happened with me and an AKG before.

Been using it on my daily commute, fed by a FiiO E17 with a fairly hefty EQ boost on both ends :3  It's just got a really fun sort of sound.

In case you missed the pic in the other threads... (Click to show)

Their sound is much like a Sextett.

I enjoyed the sound too, but found the comfort terrible.

try a transplant into an open shell of some kind :beerchug:

I'd rather transplant the drivers from my K141 ... they're identical drivers right? plus my k141 is totally beaten up... the K140 is mint... don't want to mess around with it.

That's a shame. The earpads on mine are like new and I'm finding them to be one of the most comfortable on-ears I've EVER worn.

I think the 140 is different, and the 141 and 240 are more similar. From what I remeber.

Let me know what you think of for a shell I have the 141 here also could be fun with the right shell.

141/2 and 240/1/2 are open

171/2 and 271/2 are closed

So you'd think that sets a trend for the x40's to be open and x70's to be closed, but nope the K140 is closed

I think that's it, unless there are more exceptions somewhere :confused_face(1):
