HD650 cable for HD580/HD600?

Has anyone tried the HD650 cable on the HD580 or HD600? If so, what were your impressions? Good, bad, no difference? I wouldn't expect there to be a tremendous difference, but I really hate the stock HD580 cable and would like something a little better, but I'm not willing to spend an arm and a leg on an upgrade cable.

I don't know the answer. Some people say that the 600 and 650 cables have the exact same wire, but with more plastic around the wire on the 650 cable. Others say they have tried the swap and perceive a sublte but noticable difference. For myself, I want to try a better cable on my 600's, but I'm unwilling to pay $200 to do it. So, I'm waiting on a more affordable (< $100) but highly recommended one from [AK]zip. He's backed up, so it will be a while before I get it, and I don't know how much difference it will make to me.

My personal bias is that, when almost everybody says an upgrade matters, it probably does... but figuring out the best compromise between price and quality is a very tricky and highly personal matter. (I think some folks here must be rich.)

Hi,

I have the 650 cable on my 600s. I must say I'm an interconnect doubter and only really did this for aesthetic/practical reasons (I think this is good enough reason alone). I did a quick comparison and there was possibly a slight difference, although I put this down to having to use an adaptor for the 600s cable (to large plug). Obviously this is very subjective and where I find virtually no difference someone else might find a large change.

This is exactly how I felt and I am not disappointed at all

I have an Enigma cable for HD650. It is much better than the stock cable and definetely cheaper than the different Zu, Cardas, Equinox, although I don't remember how much I paid for it.

You might contact fellow headfier Grandenigma, highly recommended

I doubt it's anything under $100.

if memory serves me correctly the 600 is the one with the smaller connectors on the headphone end correct?

if so, than they are NOT the same wire, Ive cut both open, the 650 stock cable is substatially thicker in regards to internal conductors.

I wondered about this because I think that one of the Sennheiser company who worked with cables told Jan that the 580 and 650 cables were exactly the same except for the exterior so he doubted whether there would be any differences.

That made me wonder whether the differences are to do with the spacing between the two wires because of the coating, but if you've cut them open and they are different thicknesses, then the Sennheiser guy got it wrong then.

I use the Equinox cable with my 600's and there is definitely a difference to be had but if you can improve with a stock 650 cable, what a cheap upgrade/change.

The 650 stock cable noticably improved my 580's to the point of reminding me of the sound of stock 650's themselves.

The 580/600 cable is definitely different than the 650 cable. It did make a noticeable difference in my setup. I now have [AK]Zip's custom cable on my 600's, and this cable makes a VERY noticeable difference from the stock 580/600 cable. I've never heard the Headphile cable, but this cable will make a lot of people rethink Zu and Cardas as the aftermarket replacement cable of choice.
