Ultrasone and Beyer DT-660/860 ->SAME HEADBAND

Sorry if someone else has pointed this out, but has anyone else noticed that the highline Ultrasone cans use the EXACT same headband as the Beyerdynamic DT-860 and DT-660 headphones?

I mean the plastic "C" holding the actual cup might be just ever so slightly different, but the upper part is IDENTICAL. The are the same mold, with the same screw holes, and same folding joints.

Did Beyerdynamic sell these to Ultrasone?

What is going on here?

Nice catch! They are definitely the same, but it's possible they are both OEM's and neither company owns the design.

I noticed the DT-440 also uses this headband. So maybe others had not noticed this? If so, I want answers!

OEM huh, check otu the HD-280:

The pivots are different but the band looks the same too...that is 3 germans now!

Ultrasone are a smaller opperation than Beyer is, so it's understandable if they don't invest in all the tooling to mold their own plastic.

Looks like Sennheiser also bought from them though!

Probably all made in the same factory in China.

Yes, I beleive it is some sort of generic, off the shelf headband that is used by a variety of manufacturers.

The earcups/drivers etc.. (AKA the important parts!) are all of their respective manufacturers designs though.

It's a third party delivering these headbands. Which is OK with me because companys can spend the money in the development of sound(quality) and doesn't have to take care about inventing a new headband.

And now that they have solved the braking problems of the older versions...

Wow, when I saw those two pictures, I immediately thought HD280pro.
I wonder if anyone with Beyerdynamic DT-860, DT-660, or Ultrasone's has had the headband crack on them yet (wonder if it will be a problem).

I had the Ultrasone band crack on me, and I know others have as well. I've yet to hear of it happening to the Beyers, but those models aren't quite as popular as their others here.

Well, at least this gives a plausible answer to why the HD280's headband is known for cracking.

Because it is cheap crap?

That about sums it up.

The white center part in on the Ultrasone PROline 750 seems to be made entirely of rubber (makes the headband more crack resistant), which is different from the Beyers. The lower end Ultrasone HFI-650 on the other hand is made exactly like those Beyers IIRC.

BTW, these PROline 750s are REALLY good!

Really. Most people don't have anything, or at least anything good to say about the entire Ultrasone product range. Did you just post about them?
