Interesting new design (IMO the silver STAX amps look "cheap" compared to the bronze-ish and black designs), though I don't like having the two jacks on top of each other. Looks like no switchable inputs on the new 717

My guess is that they're using an auto-detecting relay design.

or it'll be the same as before, a switch in the back between XLR or RCA.

Not exactly sure. No sound seemed to be coming out, so I turned the volume up to see what was going on and it made some loud popping sounds. I took them off my ears to see what was happening, and there was a bright blue corona. I thought I might have accidentally killed them, so I opened them up, but there doesn't seem to be too many problems in there. I'll give them some cool-off time and try to work out what happened.

On the flipside, at least it gave me an excuse to open them up.

Ergh, doesn't sound very pleasant... you figure out what happened yet?

Best,

Not really. I suspect I burned out the protection resistor in the right driver. It's as dead as a doorknob.

Wow, not good.

Though I imagine there's something kind of neat/unholy about a blue-glowing pair of 4070's... well if you're not busy freaking out that is.

Tough luck man... hopefully they can be repaired.

Best,

-Jason

While fiddling around with them I managed to give myself the first true electric shock I've gotten from electrostatic headphones. It really hurt.

This just ain't my day.

Worker's comp! Warranty! Get my lawyer on the phone!

What's your setup for this headphone? are you using an external amp through the Illusion transformer box?
