I think its because so often thats actually true. Its a side effect of a company producing a product which really is just perfect for its target, or which is technically excellent and priced well, where does the company go from there? Since Quad developed current dumping the only real progression the amps have made is updated asthetics and an increase in output wattage. Likewise with Stax. With the Lambda they really created a killer piece of engineering, they could still be making and selling the exact same model right now and Im sure itd sell as many as the 404s do. This is of course in general opposition to the built in obsolecence of products from companies like Sony and Pioneer. Got the newest minidisc player? well they just relased a recorder, got the recorder? now they do long play, netmd, etc.

Ok Staxies. So I've got two pair of Lambda Pros and frankly that seems a little silly. So I'm contemplating another pair of something. What would be a good step from the Lambda Pro? I'm borrowing a pair of 202 from a friend.

Sigma? Sigma Pro? 303? 404? regular Lambda? anything else.

Cheers,
thrice

Regular Lambda is different and it's quite nice in its own ways, even though the Pro, in my mind, is the clearly superior headphone. But it's still a Lambda, you know? (i.e., different, but not worlds different.)

I say get a SR-X mk 3. I swap between my Lambdas and the SR-X and I like having both. Overall if I had to give one up, I'd keep the SR-X, as it's a fairly unique presentation.

Best,

I'd go for Sigma or Sigma pros myself. This is why.

I would also go for a Sigma. They are quite good and very comfy. The SR-X should also be on the list expecially if you remove the damping material from inside the housing.

btw JJCha dropped the Lambda Pros back at the house, and I'm listening to them now - note to self, keep the STAX.

I also found this to be very annoying and here's what I did to eliminate the noise almost entirely.

Remove the plastic yoke holding the cups and apply a very thin coat of grease in the cup hole where the plastic yokes goes in.
I used RC motor grease on Qtip.

Thankfully mine have never squeaked, my plastic is very well behaved. Sadly they do slip foreward every time I look down though which makes them a little annoying when I'm rying to work with them on as I need to look down frequently. They are best suited to relaxation style listening. Still, they are extremely comfy and sound delicious.

I've never had a chance to experience this with my STAX. I've also never heard the fart

I am not a headphone guy but to the little test experience in the shop, the lambda are more for the people that like a more aggressive sound.

The Sigma are so easy on your ears that you could listen to them for hours.

In fact, I fell asleep yesterday with the sigma playing Ray Brown from my VPI scout.

But it is probably true that you will get a little less bass and highs extension in the sigma.

My short shop test was not long enough to conclude in details. just went fo the fisrt impression and the love at first hearing experience.

The sound is the 2 plastic piece rubbing together at the yoke and the casing where it pivots.
The fart is something else thats common in 001/003 and Omega2 and I think associated with air pressure between you and the phones.

Squeeze them against your head while you're playing music.

No, no, no...you put one earspeaker in your armpit and flap your arm up and down.
