Holy cow, I just had a crazy idea!
I've got thet two SRD-7's hooked up in parallel off the X250.5. The SR-X/MK3s are plugged into the normal bias unit, the SR-404s are plugged into the pro bias unit.
Now get this.
I put on the SR-404s as normal...then...
PUT THE SR-X/MK3S ON TOP OF THEM, so I'm wearing BOTH headphones. The SR-X/MK3s can be heard through the SR-404s, which bleed in and out like crazy! I can switch either on and off, it's pretty wild! Might be cool to mess around with the relative balance between the two sets of cans, but just like this it's pretty good!
The SR-404 headband is in the back, SR-X/MK3 in the front.
The headstage is freaking WILD! Some of the 404's bass is cancelled out, and the midrange detail is SPECTACULAR.
The upper midrange to treble is a bit hot, and there are some phasing issues I think, cymbals sound a bit strange. Things improved when I set up the rig in the mirror, making sure the SR-X/MK3s were placed to fire through the SR-404s right where my ears are.
I'll have to get my camera charged up to snap how this looks later tonight, it's pretty ridiculous!
Taking the SR-X/MK3s off reduces the headstage width and seems to reduce the "air" surrounding things. It also increases bass and dynamics a bit. Putting them back on throws the doors wide open, everything resonates in its own space and doesn't interfere with anything else...
I JUST dreamed this up and have to go for lunch with a friend, but will play around more when I get home.
