IEM vs. cans analogy?

post #1 of 3

This might be a pointless exercise, but let's try it anyway...

I am familiar with the following IEM's:
  • ER6 (not 6i');
  • ER4P;
  • Super.fi 5 Pro.
For each of these 3, which cans would be the most analogous?

I am also familiar with Sony MDR-V6's and just a little bit familiar with HD-600's (std cable). How would these 2 map to IEM's?

ER6= Gradoish.... Emphasize detail
SuperFi Pro= Beyer

Havent heard the SuperFi Pro's but people that like bass tend to like them. So this is why i matched with the Beyers. Havent heard enough of the ER4p's to make a good choice.

I don't know if its apples vs oranges
but I have the er6i and maybe they are like Sennheisers in their detail
But I don't think they sound like Grados.
IMO it will cost alot more to get a comparable IEM vs full size headphone.
Although obviously there are alot of people who prefer IEMs to cans, for various reasons
