Conflicting cleaning instructions for Shure earphones?

In the instructions for the Shure e3c's the use of alcohol based cleaners is specifically advised against. In the instructions for the e5c alcohol is suggested as a cleaner. This does't make sense since the tips are exactly the same. Any ideas which instructions I should follow. ( I tend to favour alcohol as an antseptic)

I believe it is fine for alcohol to be used as a cleaner for the TIPS - perhaps the first set of instructions was warning against using alcohol to clean the actual IEM's

E5 is encased in clear plastic. Many versions of E3 are painted. Perhaps alcohol can possibly damage the paint finish on the E3, leading Shure to not recommended alcohol for cleaning them.

You are probably right. That is the impression I got after contacting Shure was that it is the earphone itself they are concerned about.
