On the one hand, I feel that with the of the original Punk and Post-Punk movement, you had an equal hit-to miss level (that is to say, very low) as any genre of music, but I have to agree WRT modern so-called (or so accepted at face value by people separated in time by decades now who siumply don't know any better) "punk"

Modern "Punk" seems to have been overtaken by bed-wetting, limp-wristed (no offense to the limp-wristed, even you would punch these guys in the face), limp-ducked (you know what I mean) loser rock, with adenoidal, hormnonal, just-post-pubescent caterwauling singers (pushing 30), crying about how hard their upper-middle-class white suburban "teenage" lives are. Boo-hoo! Yeah, she *doesn't* like you. Why? Because your ARE a loser who writes generic whiny songs like this!

Modern rock (i.e. "Emo") SUCKS!

Its also why Classical Music is 1000 times better than any metal, rock or rap music since the "sound" (I don't think of it as music) actually physically hurts my ears...

Classical music as it is known did finish round about 1820's and was replaced by the Romantic era which led to Nationalism which led to the breakdown of our tonal system which developed into electronics and modern 'serious' composers.

If you mean orchestral by the word 'Classical' then you don't know what you're taking about. What a stupid generalisation for a music enthusiast to make.

Its also why Classical Music is 1000 times better than any metal, rock or rap music

Well, it's different and the target audience is also different. Each serves its purpose.

These conversations are completely worthless. Musical tastes vary more than almost any other personal opinion, and people are swayed or srengthened by way too many factors. I see a lot of people ripping on many bands, like Radiohead, without providing a solid reason as to why. Reasoning doesn't go beyond "I don't get it."

What do you all look for in music? Technical virtuosity? Catchy hooks? Simplicity? Solid rythm and time? Fantastic vocals? Enthralling lyrics?

I like all of those things, but do I always find them in the same place? Of course not. I listen to a variety of things to find what I want to hear at any given time. How or why we put these musicians on the chopping block without good reason is beyond me. Is it just arrogance, exemplified by the whole "punks hating sell-outs" thing? It seems that many find some kind of strange pleasure in bashing popular music; it makes the critics feel superior "knowing" that they are among a select few that listen to a certain musician that is so much better than the trend. We're ready rip on some musician for their faults, while we are so quick to forgive our favorites of their own.

Perhaps we should also be listing the musicians that we find outstanding, and why. I think we'll find that we all like certain musicians for certain reasons. Why we spend time on here bashing music, much of the time without foundation, is an exercise in musical pride that I don't get.

Jimmy Hendrix

He plays good guitar, but I see so many mention him as the best guitar player of all times when he was somewhat sloppy, and nowhere as good as SRV who happens to be nowhere as good as Jeff Beck/Joe Satriani. All who play the same genre.
