stores here in singapore have NO return policy whatsoever, so we don't have the luxury of "auditioning and returning"

BUT on the occasional rare time that I order from overseas, yeah I do feel kinda guilty. its like having my fun with the item, then returning it

Some of the stores here in the states no longer have this policy, or they reduced the time to audition and return. Fry's Elctronics now only gives 15 days to try their stuff. One salesman said too many people would buy something, use it for what they wanted, and then return it. Could you imagine: it's Super Bowl Sunday tomorrow, so you go and buy a 54" HDTV projection screen TV, watch the SB, keep it a few more weeks, then return it! And now, because so many others have abused the system, those of use who ligitimately use it lose out!!

Maybe the retailers in Singapore know something we don't here!! When it comes to certain electronics items like CDPs and speakers, you really need to set them up in your system in your house to make sure they perform correctly.

Ablaze,

My wife and I live in Ecuador, and it is next to impossible to find anything that sounds good in the whole country! And what you do find is about 3-5 TIMES the price here in the states. I looked to replace my really cheap and small Yamaha speakers that came in my YST-23 with some floor standing units. The only thing that sounded even decent cost $500 and up PER SPEAKER!! Needless to say, we didn't buy any speakers. Even when they went to 50% off they were too expensive. You could fly back to the states, buy the speakers you want, pack them into boxes or suitcases and fly them back to Ecuador for less money than buying something decent down there!

Life here in the states has its problems and downfalls, but opportunity and choice are two words that we have here in abundance, and many other countries don't just have a few choices, they have NO choices.
