I guarantee with this thread being posted, the amount of eBay searches for "grado" or "grado hp" has probably skyrocketed.

as i sit here with my hp2's mounted proudly atop my head copntemplating how to build an amp that will do them 1/2 of justice (i think a balanced mahagony cmoy is in the works) i am amazed by how stunning they are.

everything i play through them except for classical they seem to love and love some more. they can do classical, but i dont think as well as the stax's. volcals are disturbingly nice. the bass is EXCELENT in about the same way as my o2's: not a skullshaker unless thats in the music, but it is all there and controlled quite well. the highs just sound amazing. i am also amazed at how "neutral" these headphones are.

Yeh, rub it in our faces why don't ya

j/k. I would save up for the amp. A cmoy won't do them justice at all methinks

After that picture, we know the value of the headphones has drastically lowered.

when i build the balanced "mahagony cmoy" i will use the 4-pin only. big hint, you cant talk about the mahagony cmoy by name on these forums unless you bought one made by the designers it supposedly has great synergy with grados.

i built the 4-pin xlr TO 2*3pinxlr adapter. to do this i had to salvage parts from my franken-sr125's. one of the "key mods" for the sr-125's was a part of the plug, and i didnt change this feature.

the balanced (bridge tied load, blaah blaah, its not technically balanced...) amp i built is driving them well. the REAL reason that i did this is this is my only "pure" home based ss amp. kind of sad, eeh? they sound better out of this amp than the sr125's. i still need to hear them from a "proper" balanced amp...

anyone up for a minimeet? northern nj area.

I seriously doubt that - I bet people would still be willing to pay top dollar for them, even with 'pubes' sticking out of the earcups.

so, ummm, i got the toe-tappin urges tonight.

this is good because i have not gotten the toe-tappin desires in ages and missed them. it is bad because everyone in my house heard my toe-tappin.

cans: hp2
amp: eargasmatron (melos, upgraded)
music: led zeplin houses of the holly.

Hey nikongod I noticed your HP-2 doesn't have any lettering around the edges but the JG logo is perfect. Seen a few others like this, was this one of the style variations of the HP-1000 series? Or a sanded down version (I can't even notice the remnants of where the letters used to be, worn down ones usally leave a little imprint you can still read)?

they dont have imprints, and the machining marks (groves from a lathe i assume) are still present.

im pretty sure that the lettering just flaked the whole way off. there is no impring of the letters though.

i personally like to rub my fingers around the rims of grados while i listen. sort of like people who twirl their hair. if they had any lettering left it woule be long gone.
