Not at all... as it's about $650 north of the EA-4. I'll defer specs until I get the unit with documentation.

This is his price no object offering - having just heard Wayne's HEV90/HE90, we'll see how this really stacks up against the Orpheus as well as against the ES-1, with HE60 and OII.

But, it now exists, and the wait is almost over.

Any word on the finishes of his amplifiers? I know in the past people complained about the looks of his amplifiers, but supposedly he's remedied this.

Take a look at his website... most of his amps are quite nice looking now.

Argn, i hope it's my turn soon!!! I'm "kinda" a new design too. But only cosmetic, it'll be basically an EA-1 in a new custom enclosure. Hope it looks good, waiting for Peter's go.

EDIT: By the way pabbi1, i asked for pics before i send payment and he ships it out. I hope it didn't insult him, but after the wait i was starting to lose faith.

Just recieved an email from Peter with the attached picture of my finished McAlister EA-5.



It isn't shipped yet but should be soon! Can't wait to hear.

The letters seem a tad bit big or maybe it's just that the unit is small (compared to the EA-1)

VERY interesting - I'm kinda wanting mine to be a surprise since it should get here on my birthday (happy birthday to me, ...), but I had considered that. If Peter happens to shoot me a pic, I'll post it.

All I know about mine (other than the circuitry we've discussed, like self-biasing, tube-output equalization, etc) is 14 tubes (OY!), so it SHOULD look monstrous...

Funny because Peter talked me away from an external PSU as he does not believe in them. Maybe the situation is different with an electrostatic amplifier. Cool amp man, I am sure you will love it. Couldn't he find a bigger font?

Hey that amp will come in handy as you grow older and your vision fades. You can read the controls from the next room. Just ribbing of coarse, sweet looking amp! Congrats!

Well, the story is i told Peter i'm a computer as source guy and that the amp would be sitting on my tabletop, not on a stack of components. So i was asking him if he could build an amp that would be narrow and tall instead to save space. He proposed to build it with the power suply separate so that i could stack them up.

It looks very impressive. As soon as I get the chance, I want to compare the sound of Peter's new creation, to the sound of his original amp. (which I own), using my HE90. If, as I expect, this new model sounds clearly superior to his original amp, then IMO it's a safe bet that it's essentially equal, or superior to the HEV90. If so, then Peter has produced a real winner, at an amazingly reasonable price. In my (and others') previously reported comparisons of Peter's original amp. to a couple of HEV90's , it was concluded that Peter's amp. is a terrific performer at an amazingly low price. We concluded that its performance was about 85% that of the HEV90. This is why I conclude that if this new amp. substantially exceeds the performance of his original amp., then it probably equals or exceeds that of the HEV90. Of course, the best possible comparison would be for head-to-head evaluations of this new amp. versus an HEV90, and others. Perhaps we'll have the chance to do so at one or more future meets.

I got a question, on mcalisteraudio.com, it says EA-1 has XLR input. Are they balanced? It would make sense for electrostats to be balanced, now if they are i'll just have to go get a new DAC.
