Here is a very lightly used example of Vinnie Rossi's superb iMod. An iMod is a Generation 4 iPod (Photo) that has been modified to provide a superb sounding, battery-powered, miniature-sized digital playback source with fantastic features and a stellar user interface... The mod was done in February 2006. I purchased a brand new 60Gb iPod (retail $400) and sent it straight to Vinnie for the iMod ($195) As soon as I received it, I enclosed it in the armor case you see in the photo ($30). On Vinnie's recommendation, I ran it off AC power feeding into my preamp for about 100 hours to settle the caps. Since then it has seen perhaps 30 hours use on the battery.

How good is it?

Since I also have his modded SB3, I asked Vinnie about a shoot-out and he said "I had both the iMod and the RWA SB3 as last years RMAF in Denver. They are very close but I think I like the iMod more with my Clari-T and Omega Speakers... I posted some details about this on audiocircle on my forum http://www.audiocircle.com/circles/viewtopic.php?t=21954&start=0"

The iMod is of course completely compatible with iTunes and all iTunes audio formats. It will hold about 2,500 songs (About 7 days playing 7/24) in the Apple Lossless Format. Or fewer songs and any combination of Podcasts, Audio Books and Photos you prefer. Currrently formatted for Mac but can be easily reformatted for Windows with free software from Apple.

In addition to the case, the unit will ship with the stock Apple power supply. You can see the photos on the Audiogon ad: http://cgi.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cl.p...156814675&item

While the Apple warranty is obviously voided, I queried Vinnie who replied "I'd be glad to help if they had a problem with the unit (battery change, parts change, etc.). If the problem is mod related, I cover that at no cost."

Paypal and USPS Priority Mail are included in the price which is fair and firm. I am new to head-fi but you can find my perfect feedback as Ckorody on Audiogon and ebay.
