What's your "reference" song?

When you get new headphones (or any new gear!) what is your "go to" track?

What song do you always use to acclimate yourself?

What's your criteria? Does it have to push the limits of technology or...is it just a song that you really like?

My songs are:
"Elemental" by Tears For Fears
"Snowbound" by Donald Fagen (solo)
and
"Back In Black" by Ac/Dc

My custom IEMs should arrive on Tuesday and I'm anxious to give 'em a good workout.

I really don't have a "reference" song; I usually just play whatever song I happen to want to hear at the moment.

Dark Side of the Moon, naturally.

It was the very first CD I ever bought, too, back around 20 years ago. Before then, I listened on tape and so-so vinyl. Besides having good sonics, I've heard it many, many times and it's easy to hear differences in gear.

Other than that, I put some Back through it and whatever pop I'm listening to at the time.

I have 3 cds that I generally use

Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon
Tool - Lateralus (which I generally refer to as this generation's Dark Side of the Moon)
Paul Van Dyk - Politics of Dancing 2 - CD1

For rock, I often like to use "Bulls on Parade" by Rage Against the Machine or "Spoonman" by Soundgarden.

"Mofongo" From Mint Jam - Blue - by the Yellowjackets.

I grew up with the Beatles; and I like to sit in with them on a recording session.

"The Beatles 1" is a good one. A number of the pieces place the guys solidly and cleanly around me and make me smile!!

Another good one is Alan Jacksons "A lot about Livin'" album, it's another one that places the instruments quite well and cleanly in space.

And I'm talkin' about listening with Alessandro MS-1s here!! These cans are not noted for good imaging and soundstage! But they do quite well!!!

Definitely "Next," by Skylab

Greatest ambient song I ever heard. In fact, it's genuinely the best, weirdest, most beautiful song I ever heard, and Probably WILL hear, EVER, in my whole life .

I call it the theme song of my life

Getz/Gilberto - The Girl from Ipanema
