Internet Connection Trouble

Thread Starter
Yesterday I ran a Disk Cleanup on my home computer (Windows XP) and this morning I cannot sign on to the internet. My internet connection is apparently only receiving data, but is sending nothing. I tried to "repair" the connection but there was an error saying "cannot renew IP address".

I think it is possible I deleted some necessary internet file after the Disk Cleanup. (My router works correctly as I can hookup my girlfriend's computer with no trouble.)

Do any of you have any ideas what the problem may be or what I might be able to do?

Thanks

Wireless or ethernet? I doubt the hard drive cleanup did much, but you can always try some new drivers.

I am using an ethernet connection. Yeah, I am not sure if the cleanup is the problem, but that was the last significant thing I did to the computer.

Try going under network connections, highlight your local area connection/network bridge icon(s), right click, and hit repair. Also, you may want to try disabling them, and them re-enable them. I have XP, and from time to time I just get dropped so I do the above, and everything is back to normal. I know its not my ISP, and not the router, so it is something in the XP networking software.
