I have read http://166.90.205.111/forums/showthr...01#post2160650 Thread #34 that our member carl owns it. Carl do you care to tell me a little more about the sounic signature of it. Are the parts and build quality good?carl. Thanks in advance.

Any othe owners? comments are welcome.

Illusion ESC-1001 is used in replacement of the Stax SDR-7 /7II/7PRO. The connection is idendical I think. here Pro bias only. I read in the thread that bias is set at 500v. Is this enough??? Since the pro series have 580v.
Retail Price JPY 68,000 (USD 590)

Thanks in advance for all the input.

You're right I have it, but I haven't fired it up yet.

The unit can be thought of as a battery driven version of the Stax transformers with better parts and a nicer case, but at the end of the day there is only so many ways to make a voltage transformer. You're correct that it's only got a 580v bias, and there is only one output (paralleling electrostatics will degrade the sound anyway).

From what little I've read from the very small number of owners of these they're highly transparent and a little light on the bass. But it is a transformer, so unless they've majorly screwed up your basically listening to your amp's sonic signature first and formost.

It probably wouldn't be worth upgrading to one of these if you already have a SRD-7 mk2/Pro, unless you're looking for that small extra boost in sound quality. I picked mine up at auction, so I didn't pay Y68,000 for it.
