Special Project: an offer to the community

Hi guys! Purk and I are in the process of doing a trade for my ModWright LLC Pioneer Elite DV-59AVi package deal for his Sennheiser HD650, replacement pads, and a Stefan AudioArt Equinox replacement cable. Based on my research conducted here within Head-Fi and throughout the Internet, there are quite a number of headphone replacement cables for the Sennheiser headphones on the market. By no means is this an exhaustive list: Cardas, Stefan AudioArt, Clou, Headphile, RnB Audio, Zu, Moon Audio, Oelbach, etc. I would like to build a thread whereby owners of these fine headphones that have one or more the aforementioned headphone replacement cables swap cables with one another for a period of time. My goal for this special project is to offer the opportunity for trustworthy members to audition whichever replacement cables they want for a pre-determined period of time, offer their subjective opinions in the form of impressions or reviews, and build positive user feedback upon successful cable swaps along with generating profits for our sponsors who can sell us these cables to individuals that wish to purchase their own cables. This has the potential to be a win - win - win situation for Head-Fi members that own Sennheiser headphones, our sponsors, and the community.

Basically, we would have to iron out these details (including future suggestions):

1. Who has what type of cable(s)
2. Contact and shipping addresses (to be kept private at all times and to ensure that we keep each other honest)
3. A system to confirm one another's identities and locations for future participants
4. A request to provide user feedback for participants after cables trade hands
5. Reviews from multiple perspectives in different listening systems
6. Mandatory insured shipping with package tracking in real time
7. Agreement by consensus upon the length of time for an audition
8. Future suggestions

Questions:
Who is interested?
What kind of cables do you have?
How do we confirm identities and shipment addresses?
How do we deal with potential abuse for theft, loss, or even damaged items?
How do we protect participant's identities and locations?
Which shipper should we go with?
What kind of shipment options would we consider to be mandatory for the purposes of this special project?
What are the financial costs involved?
How much time should we allow for auditions?
How do we confirm identities and shipment addresses of future participants?
Who should be our project leaders?
When should we start?

I know that a few Head-Fi members have gone through the enormous expense and time to collect and review almost all of the aftermarket headphone replacement cables for the Sennheiser headphones. We are grateful for their contributions. However, that means that only a small few have tried out most of the cables and we are limited to their esteemed opinions at the time that they wrote their reviews.

I have never tried to do something like this so I am open to suggestions. Given that "handicap," this special project may start off small and slowly between a few trustworthy members. There are some inherent risks involved in this project which need to be fully explored and solutions must emerge to deal with each one conclusively. Many questions need to be raised and it is my hope that enlightened and interested members will reply with concrete solutions.

Personally, I am highly interested in trying out the latest version of the Cardas headphone replacement cable most especially in my reference system which is still a work in progress. I have outstanding user feedback and I almost have all Cardas cabling throughout my reference system. If I like what I hear, then I will support our sponsors with future purchases and feedback about those future transactions. Furthermore, I will write reviews of my listening tests for the community. It is my hope that others will do so as well.

For the record, I have searched using key words such as "cable," "trade," and "swap," but I do not remember a thread or project of this nature existing in the past. Any constructive opinions will be most welcome. Thank you for reading.

No, please Welly, do not misunderstood me, that is not in any way, a replacement for your project, of course not, first it was done long time ago, and right now there are a lot of new options in the market, those are the classic ones, and the older ones...

Second this link was posted just as an starting point, and a reference, as it is in some way related to the topic...but as I stated it is just "an starting point" for those who are looking for additional information...

But of course I'm not against your kindness, and the development of your project at all, all the opposite I encourage and support it, just that I have nothing else to contribute to it...but I consider it very good idea, and that is what makes this community a great place to spend our time....

Consider that as just for the newbies, that are looking for some light, well in that case they may need some help, some ideas or directions, on where to go, and what to look for, in each case.

Also you asked for some opinions on the cables, after some time with them, well here is the first of the opinions.....

I'd be willing to chip in my mini-terminated 10' Blue Dragon. Doesn't matter to me what I get in exchange, I'd appreciate being able to listen to any other cable.

I got my Sennheiser HD-650 headphones with the stock and Stefan AudioArt Equinox replacement cables today. I also have quite a bit of extra money coming in this month so I might as well go ahead and purchase a Cardas version 2 headphone replacement cable in the next few days. I am still waiting to pickup my new Ayre Acoustics CX-7 Evolution CD player soon. In another two weeks, I will be willing to loan out replacement cables to other reputable and reliable Head-Fi Sennheiser owners. I think that this is an interesting project that deserves further investigation.
