Static noise in soundcard

Hi guys
I want to know if there's any way to stop a static noise that the headphone/speaker out of my sound card has. I listen to the music on my computer mostly using speakers and sometimes I just plug some headphones to the audio out of the sound card. I have tried everything to solve this static sound problem like muting the audio in, the cd player , etc. To clarify, the kind of sound I'm hearing, it's like a quiet buzz with some glitches in the background. When I'm listening to music is not very noticeable but when I stop the music... ummm awful background noise.

What kind of card? If all the inputs are already muted, this would indicate bad power supply filtering, and that is nothing you can do something against except for using another card. Most cards that are not cheap junk shouldn't have such problems.

The static is due to a cheap soundcard. I assume it is on-board. There is nothing you can do except get a decent one. An AV-710 is great at $30.

Have you tried already:
- remove CD Audio analog cabling and use digital CD audio feature (if you're using analog connection and the other is supported)
- ASIO drivers (I did get rid background noises by switching to ASIO)
- add extra grounding (also, if you have done some extra groundings --> remove those) and check current groundings
- move the audio PCI card as far as possible from other cards and PSU (if you are using a PCI card)
- oil all fan-bearings (old fans may produce some electrical disturbance)
- check that your audio cables don't cross powered cables/devices, go near transformers/display-cable/monitor, etc.
