Conversation with a friend (goes something like this)

Friend: Hey I have this friend who wants to get a pair of good heaphones

Me: What for?

Friend: It's for sound design class.

Me: (goes on rambling about studio monitoring headphones) bla bla-.. One of the most popular headphones people use for mixing is the Audio Technica ATHM50, but they have the new M50X now. If your friend needs to tone down on the budget, he can get the younger siblings M40X, M30X or M20X.

Friend: Alright cool thanks.

2 days later
Friend: Hey yeah my friend bought the M50X.

AWWWW YISSSSS.

Two pairs, each belonging to different friends.

This doesn't really count as a covert, I got my friend to buy some M-30Xs.

My friend expressed his interest in getting a pair of good headphones for home use in the 200-300 dollar range. I gave him some recommendations, and told him he could come over anytime to try my HE-400s. He listens primarily to classic rock. Anybody else have some good recommendations? he's cool with open 'phones too

Personally, I haven't tried many headphones, so I can only say that he should look for a headphone with a good, clean, forward midrange, not too much treble, but just enough sparkle, with the lower end a but flat along everything else. Did I get this right guys?

Considering you're looking for a headphone for classic rock, you're looking for a Grado; preferably an SR-225 (which should be in the 200-300 price range). Case closed, I think. Did I get this right?

I told him that Grados are typically recommended for rock, but since I've never heard one its hard for me to really recommend it. I did warn him that most don't seem to find them very comfortable though. I urged him to join head-fi and make a decision based on what he found.

Seen a guy walking around with purple sennheiser momentum on ear, took a double take to make sure it was what I though it was.

I can't believe my eyes...... A guy from my church was in a starbucks wearing a pair of Dt990s or T5Ps ( it was completely full and I didn't know the guy so I didn't wanna embarrass myself by walking over). Amazing.

Not really a sighting, but one of my friends introduced me to her "headphones guy" who has an HE500 so she figured we'd get along!
