Isolation: Best $15 you'll ever spend?

For a month or so I've been using Mapleshade's short Triplepoint’s to isolate my CDP. IMO they improve detail and add air to the soundstage. Today I tried Ayre Acoustic’s myrtle wood blocks. At 1" high these are very simple and low-tech.

I've gone back and forth between the two methods half a dozen times on several recordings. With the myrtle blocks, I'm getting most if not all the detail and air, plus a warmer / more orgainic sound (a good thing in my rig).

Blocks are $5 each. They should work under most components, including stereo amps (probably not speakers). IMO a great tweak at a cheap price.

Here's the link [http://ayre.revealsystems.net/access...cfm?accessID=7 ]. If you try them, let us know what you think.

Nice CD player you have there.

Have you ever tried the footers from Herbie's Audio Lab?
I've owned a couple of his various isolation products and they're quite unique - they feel like a cross between rubber and jelly but are able to support very large loads.

Speaking of Mapleshade who you mentioned, I've been meaning to try their Silclear contact enhancer for awhlie now but haven't got around to buying any. They seem to make some nice products.

Glad you like your Ayre wood blocks!

I just ordered a set of IsoNodes from http://www.brightstaraudio.com/isonode.htm for $12.50USD with free shipping. I'm looking forward to see how much (if any) improvement can be seen/heard.

Just keep in mind you'll hear bigger differences among isolation feet in speaker systems.

One thing is for sure. There is no one isolation feet/shelf that is Perfect regardless of cost, and each gear will react differently to different isolation schemes. For example, steel cones usually sound like a turd under CDP but can sound pretty decent under speakers.

The best combo I ever tried under CDP was Walker Audio Validpoints (similar to Mapleshade) sitting on top of some graphite squares. Why don't you try the Mapleshade sitting on top of your myrtle blocks and see what happens?

What do you expect other than airy when your CDP is in the air like that?
