Applying gain settings - where?

Hi,

I have a question with adjusting the volume on computer-based setups.

I've read posts that state that the digital output on the computer should be set to maximum (Dr. Meier), and at the same time, the volume knob on the amplifier should be set to somewhere in the middle ranges (morsel). So... where is the digital output on the computer?

I'm using the Echo Indigo DJ soundcard, and if I set the gain settings on the console (I'm using the line-out) to 0, I have to set the volume on the Gilmore Lite to minimum, which isn't tapping the amp's potential.

In this case, where should I max the output?

Thanks.

The two statements are contradictory, so you have to find a suitable compromise. You would like the volume control on your amp to actually be usable (for the practical purpose of actually being able to control volume), without lowering digital output more than necessary. So, lower the gain on the computer until you are comfortable with the range of volumes you can get by moving the volume control on your amp.
