Oh, I've seen the link and I know exactly what you're talking about. However Grado apologists will continue to defend it nevertheless.

As a point of clarification, and as the author of the forbidden link, I'd like to note that the link in question is supposed to be funny. I don't care if anyone else likes or dislikes the RA-1. If it sounds good to you, then that's great. I didn't like it, but who cares what I think?

You'd be surprised how many "high end" products can be cloned for less than 10% of their retail cost. I can think of a few highly regarded products that can be cloned, or even improved, for in the 2 to 3% range.

That's understandable in cases where there is sufficient design and intellectual property sold with the product. However this is a standard design that everybody and their mother knows about. How different is this from Bose "patenting" a sixth order bandpass enclosure by making a slight change to a well known design that originated in the 19th century?

I bet you are refering to the Gaincard, but the Gaincard was an interesting philosophical shift in amplifier design that also had good results. Yes, it was a really cheap design but it did add something to the overall audio space in terms of thinking and design.

Btw, I would never buy a Gaincard either.

Well if you're comparing Bose to the dreaded Grado RA-1, the QC2 seem like the steal of the century.
Come on! That's not even a fair comparison.

RA-1 vs Others with Grados

The RA-1 sounds great with the Grados, and does seem to have a "special synergy" with them, regardless of how it's made, or how much it costs.

However, if I can get another amp, which sounds just as good with the Grados, but also Senns, and other headphones - I guess I'd rather have another amp (unless I planned on sticking with Grados).

And... no doubt all the Grado products are ridiculously overpriced, compared to the alternatives available (except possibly their low-priced phones).

Today I seem to following Gradofan2 wherever he goes.
I second the above wholeheartedly. To me te RS1 sounded better from my X-can v3 than from the RA1....
Just my 2c.

RA1 did sound good to me, but has anyone done a blind test with it versus a cmoy? Would be interesting to blind test them with someone who doesn't know the sound of the RA1 to see which they prefer

I have a RA-1 and a RS-1. They do many of the same things together, (zero noise floor, instrument separation, bass, etc.) very well, IMHO, that my tube amp does. I am not addressing if you can find a better value for your dollar, but confirming what other have stated who actually own and extensively listened (Jazz and Vocals in my case) to the pair.
