Grado RA-1 , really good for RS-1?

I am using the RS-1 with the Graham Slee solo and it sounds fine for me. I am thinking of getting the RA-1, it was told to be designed for the RS-1. I just wonder whether there will be a big difference between the RS-1/RA-1 combo and the RS-1/solo combo?

Anyone have experieces with that?

Thank you.

Hi Avid, you would do well to check out http://www6.head-fi.org/forums/search.php?

Then do a search for "ra-1 rs-1" - there are a lot of hits.

I have literally spent days going through a hell of a lot of reviews, impressions, and general writeups. There is a ridiculous amount of information for pretty much anything you could wish for in the archives!

Hi Avid,

The Gram Slee is a nice amp. I think if you wanted a monumentally different sound, yet excellent all the same, I would suggest looking into a tube amp. Although the RA-1 is really great with the RS-1's, something like the Maple Tree Audio offerings (www.mapletreeaudio.com) or the Earmax Pro would be a better way to go?

Thank you for your replys.

Actually I have done my work and read through most of the posts about RA-1 last two days, I still can't find a certain answer for that. Some members said that RA-1/RS-1 is an excellent combo, but some advised not to waste the money on RA-1!

However I need to do more work again before putting my hand on RA-1.

Thanks again.

May be simply trust your ear!
You can bring your RS-1 to the dealer and try with RA-1,
it is very easily to try RA-1 in HK!

Just got my RS1 yesterday so take my thoughts with a grain of salt but I'd either keep your Solo, get a Mapletree Ear+ HD or HeadAmp GS1.

I have the HeadAmp Reference and first impressions are that the RS1 is not bright even compared to the Senn 650 on my rig. But those are first impressions, will it stay that way over 300 hour mark? Who knows.

wow, there's no competiton.
RS-1/Solo is way better than RS-1/RA-1. solo is just great.
if you want a ss amp, you'll have to spend over $1000 to find better one than solo.
you'd better get a nice tube amp like mapletree, earmax pro or Rudistors.

The RA-1/RS-1 has very good synergy and a sweetness to the sound, but other amps like Headamp and some tube amps bring it to the next level. So, yes it has synergy - but there is better out there.

The RA-1 is essentially a Cmoy in a nice box. Don't waste your money.

Thank you very much! It helps a lot!

I think it is better for me to look for a tube amp.

hello,
If you are sensitive to the price, RA1 is a tradeoff. I guess the reason why some other people don't like it, it may just be the problem of their source, the different way of how they listen music. of course, we can't ignore personal preference as well.

Yes, it is. but it sounds not bad for the price and even a clone RA1 gets very hard to reproduce the original feeling of the music comes out from RA1, because they use different components and there are different people assemble them.

I fully respect your opinion, but I simply don't believe in the "Ghost in the Machine". The build quality has been reported as terrible, first hand, and the components described as cheap. I can provide the link if you PM me.

I should have been clearer. I love the Cmoy for what it is.

I understand what you mean, my friend. One can always clone a clone better than its ancestor as long as they have enough passion and pay out. Some of my other friends have been DIYing RA1s and some even enhanced the circuit and found out better components used to the amp. But there is one thing for sure so far, the original one is still unique. People just experience differently swimming within such a hifi world. Some like DIY, but some don't like or don't have time to DIY, the rest may not know how to DIY. For those don't like DIY or don't have time to DIY and may not know how to DIY, buy one from outside market is direct and reasonable. The market and the manufacturer set the price. If it is too high, it has to be lower or the product will sooner be kicked out. I once open up my EarMax Pro and found components are not very expensive. I still happy buying it and I don't need to curse Mr. Brocksieper, the other way round, I am happy giving him this extra moeny as basically the components don't tell music, the combination of them and the designer do. I find myself enjoy buying staffs rather than DIY, it saves my time and my energy.
