USPS for shipping - Page 2

Were you able to rule out user error on that one?

I've purchased a lot of stuff from E-Bay and I prefer USPS. UPS courier charges unbelievable brokerage fees when items come into Canada from the U.S. while the post office, if they charge at all, tack on only a $5.00 brokerage fee. If I'm in a hurry, Fed-Ex is good. Plus, if I miss a Fed-Ex delivery, their depot is only 5 minutes from me. They charge brokerage fees but not as high as UPS.

The post office did screw up once when it mangled a letter of authentication of ownership from Aubry Freed, guitarist for the Black Crowes when I purchased an guitar amp from him. The letter took two months to arrive and was in several pieces. Other than that one incident, USPS has been fine.

kelly: yeah we were able to. I saw a picture of the invoice with my address clearly marked on it as well as the receipt which had the date he sent the package. It left his hands Sept 29th. I just never got it

Actually, it's the shipper who's supposed to file the claim. After all, the shipper is the one who purchased the insurance when the item was sent (even if the receiver provided the money for the purchase). Their liability is to the shipper, who then has to settle with the receiver separately.

I have mixed opinions of USPS...

I have had a couple of success stories (best one being my Meta42 from JMT, which left the west coast on a Friday evening, and arrived at my door at 8am on the Monday morning)

But, i've also had my downfalls... 1 PCDP that never arrived at my end, one package that took three weeks too long to arrive, and now ~ awaiting my Cardas cable... is now 1 day over its estimated time... no biggy you may say? but ~ was sent registered, and even now... just on a week later, the reference number is still not known on the USPS system

Well... just 12 hours after my initial post here, my cable turned up

So, USPS saves the day again, and i'm one seriously happy person

Who'd have thought just a cable could make such a huge difference

Normally, I really love USPS, especially with packages. But we have a problem

I'm waiting for a package from a fellow head-fier which was sent via Priority Mail with unfortunately no Delivery Confirmation. It's been over a week. I went to my post office and they basically told me all I could do is sit and wait. Here we go, it's probably in that land with Duncans PDCP. The drama continues..

A word to the wise to reiterate what was posted earlier: ALWAYS ALWAYS use at least Delivery Confirmation.

I really don't understand why with Priority Mail they just don't add the service and build it into the price automatically.

I've been told at the PO that delivery confirmation isn't insurance against loss. It's always safer to use both delivery confirmation AND insurance, which usually isn't all that expensive.

If you generate your Priority Mail label online, Delivery Confirmation is free, so in a sense it IS added into the price automatically.

My only problems with the USPS has been packages going into New Jersey. Seems every single time I send a package to them it arrives nearly a MONTH later. This has happened at least twice in recent experience. I only used Priority Mail the first time, which took a month. The second time I applied the intelligence God gave me and sent the next one Express Mail. It too took almost a month, but that time it was free as I knew it woudln't get there overnight, much less over week!!!
