Regarding the SQ issue, personally I find crossfeed reduces the 'slam' but I understand that's just a psycho-acoustic effect from having the extreme bass taken out of your earhole and put back where it belongs. Since installing it into foobar2000 (I find the original crossfeed plug very subtle and nice, the configurable Bauer one *bs2b.sourceforge.net* a bit strong(er) even on the low setting), I have been able to listen for longer with less fatigue. Wouldn't do without it now, especially for closed phones like my DT770s.

Yes, i also think CF reduces slam; at least software CF does.
But were talkin´about making an almost unlistenable recording listenable. So the missing slam should not be a problem here.
For my ears, i like hardware CF better than software. But software´s far more flexible, and he could use it also for a portable setup, for example.
Rendering it onto the file also does´nt mean you have to uinclude it into your originals. You could have different files for different listening situations (Speakers, mobile setup, home setup).
Nice playground, though.
