It is strange that someone woudl actually mention this sort of reply with regard to me. I have been thinking about sending one of mine "on tour" around head-fiers. People interested in playing daisy chain on some sort of weekly rota give me a PM. If theres enough interest I'd certainly be willing to sacrifice for the communal experience.

Have: A900 LTD

Want to try:
HD 650/600

Beyer DT880/990 (prob. will purchase one of these or a Senn next)

AKG K701 (maybe 601, but probably will go for the top right away), maybe K240s?

AT W5000, AD2000, may jump on a W100 if a good deal surfaces (from what I read, they are a worthy can)

Grado SR225, 325i, rs1, rs2, gs1000--will most likely start with SR60/80 or MS-1 though

Sony SA5000

Stax Omega2, HE60/90, L3000, K1000--would like to try, but realistically don't see myself owning any of these, aside from possibly Omega2--too expensive/hard to find.

Have:
Stax Lambda Pro
Grado SR80
3 pairs of KSC75s. (1 recabled... 2 for future recables )

What I want to try, in order:
Omega 2's: they look awesome, and they're Stax
RS1: I really want to hear what a high-end Grado is like
HD650: I also want to hear what a high-end Sennheiser is like...
HE90/Baby-O/K1000: Just so I can say that I've heard them.

I'm pretty happy with what I have right now, though. If anything I'd want to upgrade my amp.

This is just too easy!!

The cans I have are MS-1s.

Why?

Cuz I came here to this place to find the cans that most closely match my beloved but poorly placed speaker system.

........they were great in our old house, but this place sucks the life right outta them.

Lots of studying indicated that Grado or, most likely, Alessandro, would be the best bet to match my somewhat foreward and slightly bright, but accurate, speaker system.

MS-1 turned out to be A Great Match!!

The MS-1s were the test case........they passed the test!

But my speaker system is still my primary listening device, the cans are a fill-in(but filling in a LOT!) So I need a set of cans that are simple to use: No amp or additional wires to mess with when I want to plop down in the four listening stations available to me throughout the day, so they gotta be efficient. Don't want to spend a ton of money on cans, or I'd feel obligated to get an amp to complement them and justify their expense. About $300 would be right. A set of cans that sound like MS-1s but "better." A pair of phones that feel right at home with my; aluminum drivered with black housings, speaker system.

I think it sounds like I need a pair of MS2i next!!

Sorry to derail the thread somewhat, but on that MS note, what respetive Grado models are the three Alessandro headphones based on?

Not based on ANY of them!!

Nope; not as strange as that sounds!

The Alessandro models use Grado components as far as housings and headbands and stuff, but the drivers are designed from the ground up to meet Alessandro requirements in sound characteristics.

Generally speaking; the Alessandros' are more analytical and neutral, while the Grados are somewhat brighter and more "Fun"!!

The MS-1s are a lot "like" the SR-125.
The MS2i is a lot "like" the SR-325i.
and the MS-Pro is a lot "like" the RS-1.

Thank you for the clarification. It has the advantage of educating me into sound signiture while the disadvantage of throwing my long debated and delayed entry into the Grado/Alessandro world into futher conflict.

Have: SR-225 & HD580

Want: HF-1 or RS-2

Now that I've really got a feel for the sound of Grado, Senn, AKG, Beyer, etc.. I have decided that I'm a Grado man for sure. I can apreciate other brands, but the Grado sound is what I love. The setup that I could live with and walk away from this place would be an 0404 --> DAC-Ah --> Hybrid Millet --> HF-1 or RS-2.

I want tubes and wood
