HiFiMAN HE400
By now I think most of us are familiar with the history behind the HiFiMAN HE-series headphones. What started with a single model has grown into a full...
I was in Japan and was looking at headphones to buy. I had a cheap budget of about 4000 yen or circa $40. I bought this headphone because it was on sale for $30 and was very good looking. It was...
Simply put, these headphones are one the best values in the audio world. They've praised time after time, and I now know why. These are my 2nd pair of quality grade headphones (after the V6),...
Hi Guys,
this is my second review on a new earphone, just in time that my friend is looking for a good earphone, I was recommend him to look for this Final Audio Design brand.
He...
I've used my D2.0 with my Pioneer transport with optical and coaxial cables with nice results.
Have also used with my SB3(transport,coaxial) into the D2.0 with no issues (Apple lossless).
Gotta second Utep's emotion on that one; I've got a 2.0 with the CS dac chip and blackgates, no problems using either a Chaintech AV710/Foobar, Panasonic DVD player both optical and coax, and Squeezebox. I've got a 1.3 too, never had a problem with that either.
I too had the same problem as BeerCan. My Zhaolu D2 is connected to my Squeezebox SB3. I heard the pops and clicks intermittently on certain music tracks. Also heard pops and clicks at the start of a new music track.
Had corresponded with the HK dealer and he advised me to swap the DAC CS-4398 to the AD-1852. Surprisingly, this worked for me. However I am disappointed as I won't be able to use the CS-4398 chip. Hopefully, a better solution can be found.
Also I hope that someone can come up with a way to allow internal upsampling of the Squeezebox so that its digital output can be 96kHz. That would be great! I am pretty sure that would solve the problem.

I just tested it with a CDP as transport. On both the optical and coaxial outs, there was small, but noticable clicks and pops in-between tracks. It is much, much less than with the EMU, but it's still there.
At this point I would venture the issue lies with the CS DAC board, and warn anyone using a CDP or a soundcard that doesn't support >= 48KHZ output as transport away from the CS DAC board.
For my Zhaolu 1.3, I biased a browndogged OPA627 into class A operation. But ended up preferring the DY2000's. However, Ive recently found that my choice of using a 2kohm resistor (7.5mA) was not good and would impair the sound quality.
The optimal current for the Class A'd 627 is between 2.5mA and 5mA and anything above this is detrimental.
Im going to redo my resistor work and give it another listening.
Does anyone know what value resistor I would use to get say 4mA?
Is there a better volume pot that will fit in the zhaolu? I still get small channel imbalancies with mine. If ill order the discrete upgrade i really want a better volume pot in there. I dont want to order an ALPS blue velvet only to find out it wont fit

Assuming you've tied your opamp's output to a rail via that resistor, implicitly you've 15v rails -
I = V/R or V = IxR = .0075 x 2,000 = 15v
So for a 4K resistor you'd get 3.75ma (halfway between 2.5 & 5)
For 4ma you'd use a 3,750ohm resistor.
