My vote goes to "The Essential Pogues" sheesh, this is a really mediocre collection with none of their earlier stuff - what a con ! - a waste of $5.99

New Order - The Best of New Order

Missing too many songs and several remixes are included instead of originals.

I've gotta go with "Classic Queen," which does NOT HAVE BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY ON IT!!!

The 20th Century Masters - Millenium Collection - Best of The Who

How can one sum The Who up in 10 songs? Baba O'Reilly, Eminence Front, Bargain?

WEA has put out far too many best-of selections of The Pogues.

Most best-of compliations are not really designed with the artist's/band's long-term fans in mind: instead of their top-20 hits, fans are more interested in rare material: like live takes or side-tracks. The selections are usually too stringy by the way: com'on, if you want to cash in on your laurels, at least have the decency of offering them 2-for-the-price-of-one.

Leo Sayer's Greatest Hits

It would be better if it didn't have so much Leo Sayer on it.

See ya

Bruce Springsteen's Greatest Hits. I was just listening to this the other day, and decided to get rid of it.

How do you not include tracks like "Prove it All Night", "Backstreets" and "Cadillac Ranch" and include stuff like "Murder Incorporated"? It has WAAAY too much newer stuff (some of which was previously unreleased). A poor effort IMHO.

Oh, and if I hear "Glory Days" one more time in my life, it will be at least once too many!!

Good. I hate that song

I don't like Best Of's personally, so thumbs up to Frank Zappa for having 70+ albums and not having one.

what's worse about The Best of New Order is that the UK version differs from the US version. the UK version focuses on singles (with some overlapping with Substance 1987) and is pretty lackluster. the US version deletes some songs and adds three album cuts ("Dreams Never End," "Age of Consent," and "Love Vigilantes") and has the exclusive "Don't Go (Nothing For Me)" with the added vocals. both are still not what i call a good New Order compilation.

worse is New Order - International. besides the 12" remix of "Touched By The Hand of God," it's pretty useless.

even Substance 1987 isn't perfect. yes, it's a great compilation with more than half of it with classic New Order songs, but what bothers me is the two re-recorded songs. "Temptation 1987" is good and fun, but the original 1982 12" (appears on the 1981-1982 EP and New Order - Retro box set) is soo much better, still the definitive version of the song. "Confusion 1987" is just gawd-awful! the 1983 12" (which appears on the New Order - Retro box set) is eons better. also, "The Perfect Kiss," "Subculture," and "Shellshock" are all edited, they're not the full 12" versions. strangely enough, the cassette version of Substance 1987 has the full "The Perfect Kiss."

the thing that comes closest to a perfect New Order compilation is the recent double disc set New Order - Singles. a good number of original 7" versions appear on CD for the first time, and nearly all their singles are collected, with "Murder" sorely missing... people always forget "Murder" was a single. "Blue Monday 95" and "True Faith 94" are missing as well.

ok, i'll shut up about New Order now!

other best of comps that annoy me are:
OMD - Singles becasue it's missing the brilliant "Genetic Engineering" and "Telegraph."
The Best of Blur, it's missing the brilliant "Popscene" and "Chemical World."

i'm sure there's a lot more but this post is getting way too long.
