apocalyptic and dramatic classical and opera, reccomendations please? - Page 2

I second the recommendation for Mozart's Requiem. Things don't get much more classical, and its accessible too. Certain bits, especially the Dies Irae, have been pretty heavily, uh, studied by a lot of modern film composers. It's one of the original sources for that pseudo-dramatic "Aww aww!"ing that you get in a lot of film scores.

Here's a good thread about it courtesy of LFF:

Let me add Verdi's Requiem too.

If you want to hear some really dark opera, try Bartok's Bluebeard's Castle. And find a copy of the translated lyrics. And listen to it in the dark.

For another extreme, check out Schoenberg's Moses und Aron.

Sorry if I am necroposting this thread but I have a related request. Interestinf apocalypting pieces I have found in this thread, but I am searching since long time, having so far no references, an orchestral apocalyptic piece. I have found a very brief excerpt in this Youtube video, starting at 5:51 and ending at 6:06:

It sounds like Schoenberg "Moses und Aaron" but I don't think it belongs that opera. May anybody help me? Which piece is that and who is the author?

Thank you for the attention

P.S. The video is from an Italian musical educational program for kids of early 90s.
