you know, at one point in my life I've owned upwards of 17 different consoles, and I recently owned I believe 15. I also recently sold them all but my GCN and my DS. I've been playing PC games less and less as of late, and I cannot wait for the Wii. The first console I ever bought brand new was a GBA, the second was my DS Lite (from Japan) and my third will be the Wii. It will be the first and ONLY thing I will ever pre-order (famous last words). Long live the big N, and I hope to buy a PS3 when I don't have to sell my car to buy one.

I'm the same way.

My first system was the 8-bit Nintendo and I'll be a diehard fan of theirs for life. I'm eager to see them do something strong to revamp their image and bring back their name to be as dominant as it was 20 years ago. They deserve it more than anyone else and I hope the Wii is the ticket.

New Mario, New Zelda. That makes me very interested in Wii; especially Mario. I wonder what cool gameplay gimmick the big N will come up with.

The first generation of third party titles may have a bit of a gimmicky feel to them (ala DS) but I honestly believe Ninty will be able to make it a natural control style, at least thats what I've been reading. And yea, new mario DS on the 15th, WOOOO!

What's your guess Ed? Many people have said $250-300, and now that Sony's hand has been shown, Nintendo may be leaning toward the higher end of the spectrum. Although I do recall when the N64 debuted for $50 less than what was expected, so they may still end up selling for $250. So hard to tell

I think Nintendo has the best press conference out of all of them. And I love the idea of Live Anywhere, with Vista and mobile devices. I hate Sony's press conference because it really shows nothing. They practically stole xbox 360's idea of the 'home button' on the remote, and stole Nintendo's motion sensors and took out the rumble pack.

Does anyone else share the same sentiment that the Wii controller looks like a fisher price toy? Leave it up to Nintendo to ruin a promising console with yet another abysmal controller. I will pass on this just as I have since N64...

Does anyone else think its stupid to make a judgement whether to buy a console or not before even using it first? Arent consoles toys? what do you want it to look like a t bone steak?

having said that, and at the risk of extending the OTness, CAN anyone actually tell me what sony gets if they win the format war? it must be dollars, is it dollars? like a certain ammont of money per disk sold? if so then it makes sense why they would be willing to risk the sucess of their new console by backdooring their new HDvideo format into milions of americian households via the ps3.

i'd say that's about right on, though i'm sure at 250 they're making a healthy profit. in reality it's last gen hardware, so the manufacturing costs have to be dirt cheap. compre with sony who is using such bleeding edge fab techniques that they're having troubble with their processor yeilds. also i figure that N will be able to continue dropping the price at appropriate times, ensueing that the wii will always be the cheapest of the three consoles by a fair margin. also i'm expecting a november release date, proablly coenciding with the ps3 launch.

of course, ya gotta remember that for as much as sony gets compared to nintendo, the 2 are going after completely different market segments right now, so in reality.. they are much less competitors than you think.. if we should be comparing the ps3 with anyone it's the 360, nintendo's really off doing their own thing.

also, i was really impressed with nintendo's conference. lots of flash, good things to show and plenty of games. i mean Wow, zelda AND mario at launch? they're pulling out the heavy guns right off the bat with this one. i heard there'll be 27 playable games on the floor tommorow.. is that true? if so i'll be interested to hear the impressions.
