What is the best solution:

1. 500 hour burn-in
2. Ori mod
3. Tube amplifier like "Darkvoice"

Will 3 mean less detail than my M3 (Because tubes are dark right?)?

Sorry if this is off topic.
any burn in would help... i have to admit that the stock zhoalu is very detail oriented. With the ori mod the details are not so much in your face.... it's hard to describe, but i obviously get more resolution, but less detail emphasis... and harsh sounds now sound like music.

I recently purchased a D2 from Eddie with the black gate option. I was thinking of bridging the dc output caps and when I went to find those caps under the circuit board that Eddie put in as part of the black gate option, there was nothing there. Here is a pic of the top and bottom of the main circuit board. Does it appear to have black gate caps on it? I can only find two that say 'black gate' on them? Did I get what I paid for?

A much larger version of the first pic is available at http://ra.nilenet.com/~abs/DSCN1153.JPG .

Happy Listening!

the:

1. 2 caps by the heatsink
2. 4 small caps by the BNC connector
3. 1 small cap by the toslink connector
4. 1 small cap near the row of green caps
5. 1 small cap near the 3 purple caps by the clock board (red PCB)

are all blackgates.

i'm not sure about the 2 large caps at the corner of the board. my DAC didnt come with them even though I had the 'blackgate' upgrade like you.

Woah, 4 pages since I posted this. You guys are nuts!

Anyways, what the hell are you talking about, no proof? The clock was not hooked up to the circuit properly. It did absolutely nothing.

I believe someone [perhaps Ori] even did some investigation after the fact and it wasn't even the right kind of clock... I could almost forgive a wiring mistake, but to mislead someone by 'installing something' that can never work is terrible.

It's like 'upgrading' an AMD based computer by sticking a couple old Intel processors on the motherboard with some chewing gum.

what the hell are you talking about philodox--the clock in my unit told perfect time and mine had an alarm

For value, I'd suggest not getting the upgraded DAC board, black gates, or anything like that. Just buy the stock DAC, put the better opamps in, and remove the 4 output caps. If you don't have a good amp, then get the upgraded descrete amp option.

So, this then: • D-2.0 with CS-4398 DA-Chip Price > HK $1280.- (168USD)

Good to see you still have your sense of humor.

Can you open up your unit and take a picture?

The unupgraded one is the AD1852. I personally don't see the CS4398 being worth $60 USD, considering there's plenty of people that even prefer the AD1852. It depends on what kind of sound you like, I suppose, but it's still $60.

I already bought D2 from Wu,D-2.0 with CS-4398 DA-Chip with Blackgate version.
I'm not DIYer. I cannot change circuit trace wihtout visual guidance.
Then I change opamp to OPA2107 all and opamp of descrete amp to OPA275.
My Zhaolu has very good sound.

I suggest that you talk to a local electronics repair shop and ask them to bypass the four caps. If you remove the main board (remove screws and unplug connectors) then it would take a good technician about 5 minutes to finish that mod. Take a picture of the mod with you.

Thanks Ori.
Should I remove the four caps and make bypass? Or is it OK only bypass without removal. If later, it's very easy.
